Yup. That certainly is the kind of people who live up there, and you came from elsewhere to fuck up their already stressful urban commuter lives, pal. What did you expect people who already deal with horrendous traffic every day were going to do? Join in on a sing-a-long and hug it out? They’re Washingtonians, not Royal Canadian Mounted Police at an illegally blocked international border crossing ...

Inspired by the Canadian truckers protesting COVID rules, a crew of aggrieved drivers have schlepped from California to D.C. to do … not much of anything, really.

... If you live in or around Washington, D.C., you already know that traffic on the Beltway sucks. If you don’t live in or around Washington, D.C., you probably also already know that traffic on the Beltway sucks, if only because people who do live there simply cannot shut the hell up about it. And yet, somehow, the organizers of the so-called “People’s Convoy” of truckers who schlepped all the way from California in a slapdash attempt to emulate their (white nationalism infused) Canadian counterparts were evidently unaware of just how bad Beltway traffic is — or how much people in D.C. truly do not give a shit about their whole thing ...

2. What did convoy donations buy?

Truckers are grumbling that they don’t know the endgame or what all the donations have been used for.

... many Convoy leaders are actually experienced industry lobbyists, and some participants are wondering what their angle may be. For many of the actual truckers, they put their jobs on hold to join the rolling demonstration. And yet, those who signed up for action watched with disappointment and frustration as the project appeared to morph into a last-minute lobbying campaign. Some donors have expressed confusion about the funding and the mission, wondering whether the convoy will “finish what they started.”

The ad hoc, figure-it-out-as-we-go mentality has raised all sorts of questions about whether the organizers have hewed to the law—or if the People’s Convoy has been, intentionally or not, a scam.

And according to fundraising totals, that’s looking like a $2 million question ...
