Jail officials moved former Empire star Jussie Smollett to a psychiatric ward after deeming him a risk of self-harm, according to an outraged brother of the actor two days after Jussie was sentenced to five months at Cook County Jail in Chicago for lying to police about a made-up homophobic and racist attack.
The actors sibling Jocqui Smollett said There was a note attached to his paperwork today and clipped on the front of his jail cell saying that hes at risk of self-harm.
Jussie, 39, (found guilty by a jury) has maintained his innocence. After receiving his sentence last Thursday, the actor declared he is not suicidal.
If anything happens to me when I go in there, I did not do it to myself, he said at the Leighton Criminal Courthouse (and kept yelling in court I am not suicidal !)
In the Instagram video, Jocqui Smollett also stressed his brothers innocence of any crime and condemned him being moved to the psych ward. Officials with the Cook County Jail have not publicly commented.

I watched the sentencing on Court-TV and when he kept yelling I am not suicidal !
I thought I bet he does something in jail as a stunt,
just like he hoaxed the attack against him.
The judge, while sentencing Smollet, said he fakes stuff to become the center of attention.

(5,586 posts)If something happened to him, and they hadn't taken special precautions, they'd be crucified. The fact that he said the word 'suicidal' several times is probably enough to get him put on suicide watch.

(34,195 posts)He kept yelling "I'm not suicidal, and if something happens to me, I didn't do it".
Just seemed like a 'setup'.

This would have all gone away almost immediately if she stayed out of it and he took resposibility for it. He still denies his involvement.

(2,336 posts)Have to wonder why? Why such a long time in custody? Yes he committed a crime but it seems this punishment is going a bit far. What next? Don't blame him for being paranoid.

(51,308 posts)A big mea culpa the usual drugs, drink, mental health, whatever excuse of the day, and hed probably make a lot of publicity from it. That seems to have been his motivation anyway.

(51,308 posts)From what Ive read of Cook County jails, prison might be better.
At any rate, I think hes in protective custody. I hope so.

(9,067 posts)Where's your concern for them?
You think it's unfair that he taste the prison he would have gladly offered up for others for a little bit of attention?
It's not unfair. It's rich justice.
And let's not forget, if he had taken any smidgen of responsibility or accountability, he would not be in there. He dug this hole all by himself.
Someone finally stopped enabling him.

(9,067 posts)First the unidentified white people, and then the brothers who were caught dead to rights.
I will never understand why people back terrible horses.
This one was was lame from the word go.

(34,195 posts)He paid two black friends to beat him up
And filed a police report saying two white guys beat him up for being gay.
The police spent time and money investigating his false complaint.
It's a crime, filing a false police report, that cost the police time and money.
In his sentencing the judgment talked about 30 minutes explaining how Smollett filed the false report so he could become the center of attention and get the spotlight put on him.
A 'pity party' the judge called it.

(22,316 posts)enough, but a lot of people think accountability is impossible without incarceration.

(2,919 posts)Stated several times? Obviously, grasping reality was not Jussie's strong point. Pleading not guilty to an offence you actually did, usually results in a stricter sentencing. If he said, "Yeah, I goofed up big time.", he probably would have gotten off with fines, etc. But he refused to own up to it, so the judge put the whammy on him. Too bad the police couldn't have spent more time/$ on REAL crimes (which, Cook Co. is amazingly poor at), than entertaining this attention nut.

(9,067 posts)What a bunch of attention seekers.
He clearly telegraphs he's about to pull some shit. He pulls some shit. His brother: "How dare they!"
Sorry, guys. Guess Jurnee will have to carry you all from now on.
