Talked to an older sibling this morning. She related how freaked out she and my oldest brother were.

I’m kind of at the end of the baby boom. We had those movies about hiding under your desk and we had a shelter in the school basement with those 55 gallon drums with the yellow triangle symbol that we sometimes were led to during a drill. By the time I was in high school I don’t remember any of that stuff happening. But those a decade older had the threat of nuclear war burned into them.

I don’t think the current situation will go so far as a nuclear war, I wouldn’t say it’s impossible. But things an get very fucked up even without that. I try not to think about a major war like that; it would be the end of civilization as we know it. But people like TFG have some idea we could have limited nuclear war, or who knows what they think? That one side could bomb the other without reprisal? I hope cooler heads prevail. We’ve had some close call like in the Cuban crisis where a Russian sub was ready to fire a nuclear torpedo or the time a computer glitch showed NORAD the the soviets had launched there missles.

Putin has painted himself into a very dangerous corner. He weigh overestimated the ability of his economy to function without the rest of the world. I’m getting that old feeling of apathy. As if nothing matters because there is no future.

And I wish for you hope, because many, MANY possibilities exist for the future - some we cannot see yet.

Take a break for yourself if you need to. The news is terribly depressing, but I believe that goodness will prevail

Of course that doesn’t really help that much. I just feel so bad for these people trying to live a normal life and being brutalized. It’s been so cold here I’ve been stuck inside the last couple days I think when it warms up and I can get out I’ll feel a little better.

several directions. Earth is a very strange place, a little spinning ball in a vast universe, and people build implements of mass destruction to kill each other off and hatred is a constant theme, even within groups. Always a WTH, WTF. IMO if Putin is not stopped, he will not stop. He is a mad KGB sociopath stroking his ego on a mission to rebuild the USSR. How to stop him, I wish I knew.
