(101,730 posts)As to gas prices, I am more than willing to absorb the bite it if it can make things somehow better for the Ukrainians-- however possible. Ditto rising food prices. That doesn't mean I am unaware of the inequity in pain that Americans may face on that score and I do worry about the oldest and poorest among us. But sacrifice for the greater good can not be an extinct value in this country, no matter the attitudes among the RW.

(80,699 posts)Even if it means you have to pay a little more for gasoline.
So limit your driving a little more. Set up a carpool when you and friends have the same need to go to the grocery store.
Do you give a damn about anything beyond your car's tank?
We're all going to have to make sacrifices in the days and months ahead. And some of us (not on THIS site, of course) are going to need some constant, ongoing reminders of WHY we're in this position. And reminders of who we wind up promoting and helping if we give in, or go soft, or decide it's just too much of an inconvenience.
How do you put "inconvenience" on the same level of priority as letting Putin run amok, unrestrained? And call yourself "Christian"? And whore yourself in front of a bank of microphones and cameras, railing against Biden and other cooler, more level-headed leaders and howling for blood? And if so, how much of that spilled blood will be yours? Or your kid's?

(286 posts)The violence that Russia has unleashed against Ukrainians is disgusting and horrible. However, I do wonder how many Americans had these same feelings about the violence we unleashed against civilians in Iraq (Shock & Awe) as well as in Vietnam where we bombed cities with the same disregard for life that the Russians are showing today.

(883 posts)Russian oil imports is only 3.3% negligible source. Half the gasoline in this country was exported. Bush Administration changed laws concerning sell of oil in this country and needs to be changed back. Price gouging for corporate profits is what is going on. Most workers can't afford to get to work. Prices at the store causing food insecurity.

The pink jacket brings the same tears that I had when I first saw the little girl with the pink coat in "Schindler's List".
