Ex-Australian PM: Murdoch and Trump Did Putin's Job For Him

Rupert Murdoch's distribution of Russian talking points and vaccine misinformation is not limited to Fox News in the U.S. He has also been criticized of using Sky News to spread similar misinformation. Indeed, Sky News often seems to be competing with Newsmax in terms of pushing right wing, anti-Democratic propaganda even though it is ostensibly an Australian news channel.

Australia’s ex-prime minister, Malcolm Turnbull, has long accused Rupert Murdoch of bringing his prime ministership down—and, at a parliamentary hearing Monday, it was very clear that he’s out for revenge.

Turnbull, a former journalist who has known Murdoch for more than four decades, delivered a furious takedown of one of his country’s most notorious sons during Monday’s evidence session. He accused Murdoch of doing more to divide America than Vladimir Putin and blamed his media empire for causing the presidency of Donald Trump as well as the Capitol riot that marked the disgraceful climax of his time in power.

“What does Vladimir Putin want to do with his operations in America? He wants to divide America and turn Americans against each other,” said the ex-PM, who first met Murdoch in 1974. “That is exactly what Murdoch has done: Divided Americans against each other and so undermined their faith in political institutions that a mob of thousands of people, many of them armed, stormed the Capitol.”

The former PM, who led Australia’s center-right party from 2015 to 2018, was invited to give evidence to the inquiry that was launched after a petition calling for a probe into Murdoch’s media empire was signed by half a million Australians.

Not surprisingly, Sky News Australia has also been dinged for spreading COVID misinformation.

https://www.bbc.com/news/world-australia-58045787

YouTube has barred Sky News Australia from uploading new content for a week, saying it had breached rules on spreading Covid-19 misinformation.

It issued a "strike" under its three-strike policy, the last of which means permanent removal.

YouTube did not point to specific items but said it opposed material that "could cause real-world harm".

The TV channel's digital editor said the decision was a disturbing attack on the ability to think freely.

Sky News Australia is owned by a subsidiary of Rupert Murdoch's News Corp and has 1.85 million YouTube subscribers. The ban could affect its revenue stream from Google.

The Sky News I've seen on MSNBC has all been British Sky News owned by Comcast.

Murdoch must want to purchase the world, or he's hoping for a world-wide coterie of oligarchs, interchangeable in any country, a plug-and-play set of uber-wealthy men who can funnel the money from the poor and working classes directly to them. No more middle man. The best authoritarian governments money can buy.

Someone has to start knocking these rich bastards on their asses. If it's Turnbull, fantastic! Just get the ball rolling.
