Texas Children’s Hospital, a medical center in Houston, announced on Friday that it would stop administering drugs meant to aid sex transitions for children.
According to the hospital’s statement, leadership made the decision to stop the endocrine treatments because of the state’s recent choice to officially treat gender modification as child abuse.

“The mission of Texas Children’s Hospital is to create a healthier future for all children, including transgender children, within the bounds of the law. After assessing the Attorney General’s and Governor’s actions, Texas Children’s Hospital paused hormone-related prescription therapies for gender-affirming services,” the hospital stated.

“This step was taken to safeguard our healthcare professionals and impacted families from potential criminal legal ramifications.”

On February 21, Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton issued an official opinion arguing that gender transition procedures constitute child abuse under existing Texas law. Specifically, Paxton observed that courts have long recognized a fundamental liberty interest in procreation, a right endangered by the endocrine and surgical treatments used to aid sex transitions before adulthood.

The next angle of attack from the fascists to harm trans kids. Despite the fact that the courts have ruled against Abbott and his bigotry, now we have at least one hospital feeling the chill enough to cave in and deny treatment to trans children.

You're absolutely right this is horrible. And worse... How many others will follow suit?!

Except continuing hormone-related treatment is not against the law. All of this is because of a bigoted opinion by a criminal (Paxton) and a now-ceased directive issued by a mean-spirited fascist who thinks he's a dictator (Abbott.) There is no law on the books stopping you. Continuing treatment is well within the law.

Meanwhile, what does this mean for any teens that you have begun treatment on? Are you going to cease? Are you going to force them to start transitioning back? Do these minors now have to go through yo-yo'ing or a whiplash effect from forcing them back in the other direction?

You speak of a healthy future, yet... How many potential cases of self-harm is this going to cause? No, not the fucking phony "self-harm" that Abbott and Paxton speak of... Genuine self-harm.

This is horrifying and disgusting. Every day, it's something else there. And I'm beyond tired of it.
