(CNN)The US has information suggesting China has expressed some openness to providing Russia with requested military and financial assistance as part of its war on Ukraine, a Western official and a US diplomat told CNN.

But it is not yet clear whether China intends to provide Russia with that assistance, US officials familiar with the intelligence tell CNN.

The consideration was detailed in a diplomatic cable relayed to allies in Europe and Asia, according to the sources. The cable did not state definitively that assistance had been provided. One official also said the US warned in the cable that China would likely deny it was willing to provide assistance.

The Chinese Communist Party leadership is not all in agreement regarding how to respond to Russia's request for assistance, said one of the sources. Two officials said that China's desire to avoid economic consequences may limit its appetite to help Russia. Officials separately told CNN that Chinese President Xi Jinping has been unnerved by how the war in Ukraine has reinvigorated the NATO alliance.

"There is real concern by some that their involvement could hurt economic relationships with the West, on which China relies," said one of the sources.

Officials are also monitoring whether China provides some economic and diplomatic relief for Russia in other forms, like abstention votes at the United Nations.

with the agreement contract that Putin will pull out of Ukraine, never attack another country "unprovoked". This agreement contract also includes and bind any and all Russian rulers now and in the future.

China and Russia see Europe and the US as weak and easy victims and are emboldened.

Putin owns half the US congress, a GOP sitting president and the US media.

And is now going after Ukraine, then other countries.
China will go after Taiwan.

Russia and China aim to be the 21st century global superpowers.

but "owning" might actually be a bit far fetched. If it was true, the 13.5 billion dollar Ukrainian aid package may have never passed.

to mention world hates America far more than China…hink it’s all those military bases surrounding every every nation on the planet, and the many strings attached to foreign aide the West quashes developing nations with.

Face it, China has progressed far more than America last few decades.

Also perhaps something to do with China having 5 10 20 50 year national economic and development plans…America stumbles through debt default and budget crisis every few months, cant plan beyond end of nose…except for the Pentagon…they exempt.

The western capitalist media misleads very much on China, and we swallow it while.
