(66,316 posts)HE really didn't like the term science-fiction; he preferred fantasist instead. But ATSR is a fantastic science fiction story.

(3,802 posts)Caught me reading off the beaten path, so to speak. She took the book and read the story for herself during class. I was a bright kid but totally un-connected so I guess she was curious. I could see her getting more and more gripped by the story as she read. The next day she passed out copies for everyone to read. Just one hell of a writer. The class loved the story.

(3,802 posts)Hopefully, Deathbird Stories is on your shelf. The Deathbird is one of my all-time favorites. Some pretty dark stuff in there though.

I had the rare privilege of meeting Harlan Ellison back in 2006, hearing him speak, and then getting to have dinner with him. One of the Top Five experiences of my life.

All I know is there were things I looked back on and realized were formative to my world-view.
