How you can, perhaps, suspect someone is indulging in Stolen Valor

Let me first say that my dad served in the Marine Corps and he NEVER referred to himself or others who honorable served in that branch of the service as "former". He and they were Marines, for life.

Secondly, there's an unfortunate spelling error in this guys post that NO Marine should make. Well, I THINK it's a spelling error. Could also be a character assessment.

I've never been in the Marines, but I do know how to spell SEMPER. My Dad was WW2 Navy.

8. My test to see if someone is a Marine

is to tell them "I tried to join the Marines but they wouldn't let me because they found out my parents were married."

If they don't laugh, they were probably never a Marine.

I just googled it and there is a website and a phone number where you can report suspected stolen valor.
