7. Given the broader scope of French military history I wouldn't discount his opinion out of hand

but I think he underestimates the morale of Ukrainian troops and society as a whole.

They may be defeated on the battlefield but they'll be back under circumstances they find more favorable.

It's an impossible counterinsurgency for the Russians to win given the amount of western military aid that is flowing to the Ukrainians and is only likely to increase.
