Pierre Zakrzewski, a cameraman for Fox News, was killed while working in Ukraine, Fox News CEO Suzanne Scott announced to employees in a memo on Tuesday morning.
Zakrzewski was traveling in a car on Monday with Fox News correspondent Benjamin Hall when their vehicle was struck by incoming fire. The network said on Monday that Hall, a State Department correspondent, has been hospitalized with his injuries, but no further update has been given on his condition.
The two were hit while traveling in Horenka, outside of Kyiv, Scott said. Zakrzewski, who was based in London, had been working in Ukraine since February.
Scott described Zakrzewski as a network veteran who covered nearly every international story for Fox News from Iraq to Afghanistan to Syria during his long tenure with us. His passion and talent as a journalist were unmatched. His talents were vast and there wasnt a role that he didnt jump in to help with in the field from photographer to engineer to editor to producer and he did it all under immense pressure with tremendous skill. He was profoundly committed to telling the story ad his bravery, professionalism and work ethic were renowned among journalists at every media outlet. He was wildly popular everyone in the media industry who has covered a foreign story knew and respected Pierre.

(3,816 posts)it's the ones in studio that are problematic. At any rate, camera guys don't have anything to do with editorial content, they just shoot the pictures. Condolences to his family.

(2,198 posts)I assume you have some proof that Mr. Zakrzewski was a Russian agent? Or are you just spewing knee-jerk anti-FOX rhetoric to show everyone your liberal bona fides?
Everything I have read is that he was an accomplished photojournalist putting himself in harm's way to report on a war.
Please do let us know his connections to the Russian government and any (non-chest-thumping) reason we shouldn't see this as anything other than a professional journalist being gunned down by Russian thugs.

(17,636 posts)That is all I need to know. I consider that Fox is an enemy of my country and a personal enemy. Therefore anyone who serves Fox, Murdoch, Trump and a host of American Fascist is an enemy. While I will not celebrate his death, however I certainly feel no personal loss. This bell does not toll for me.

(19,567 posts)Benjamin Hall, the journalist working with the deceased cameraman Pierre Zakrzewski, has been calling it like it is on the ground there. He's actively called out the bobble heads trying to negate or normalize the atrocities in Ukraine on FOX for their lies.
These people on the ground in Ukraine aren't the network "hosts" who spew stupidity and lies to their viewers. They're not sitting in a comfy and safe studio more 4,500 miles away from the fighting. FWIW, I've not seen a single clip of Mr Hall's reporting where he was down playing the atrocities being done to the people of Ukraine. Every tiny bit of factual reporting which filters through on FOX is a good thing.
I don't think a person could be there, seeing this unfold up-close and in person and not be devastated by the war crimes they're witnessing.

(17,636 posts)To be a part of an evil system is evil.
It has been claimed that the Emperor Caligula, reacting to some offense, ordered the offender and everyone the offender knew to be executed. I am not sure that this story is true, but, as far as I am concerned, he had the right idea.

(19,567 posts)I find that approach overly simplistic and it would by default condemn the likes of Marina Ovsyannikova for her previous work for Channel One in Russia. The reality is more complex than a simple black and white approach.
Fox News reporter Benjamin Hall pushed back against Greg Gutfeld's claims that the media is emotionally manipulating its coverage of the war in Ukraine.
Hall told Fox News Host Jeanine Pirro last Tuesday that the media wasn't "trying to drum up some emotional response."
On Monday, Hall was injured while newsgathering in Kyiv, Ukraine, the network announced.

Fox News reporter Benjamin Hall who was wounded in Ukraine on Monday had pushed back on-air against "The Five" co-host Greg Gutfeld's claims that the media is trying to evoke an emotional response to the war in Ukraine.
"This is not the media trying to drum up some emotional response. This is absolutely what's happening," Hall told Fox News Host Jeanine Pirro last Tuesday.
The cities "are being absolutely flattened," he said. "From all corners of this country, people are fleeing for safety."
Hall added that people from Mariupol are drinking water from puddles because they can't get out of the city and that Red Cross busses can't make it to civilians who need to be evacuated.
"It's an absolute catastrophe. The people caught in the middle are the ones who are really suffering," Hall added.
"We're just saving our lives," some refugees told Hall in a clip aired on Fox News.
"It is a tragic, tragic thing happening in this country," Hall concluded. 'But it is only set to get worse."

He had the intestinal fortitude to show up and cover war zones.

(17,636 posts)Read before you type, I said he was an agent of Fox News who I personally, rightly or wrongly, consider to be an enemy of the state.
If you are going to join in the conversation, try to keep up.
I have made myself abundantly clear and I am done here, feel free to pile on.

(7,873 posts)That's not to say I agree with the original poster about this particular Fox News employee, but I'm just saying I'd be far more worried about Putin apologists pushing Kremlin talking points than I would be people calling out Putin apologists pushing Kremlin talking points...

You know if it were CNN, they would have it as Breaking News all day long.

(18,770 posts)But it appears journalists are being targeted.
Over the weekend I saw a video a 5 person Sky news team took when they were fired on, even after identifying themselves. They were lucky and escaped with minor injuries.

Also, I know for a fact that probably most of the people working for Fox in support jobs like the photographer or many of the reporters, technicians and other crew members are not RW raving crazies like Tucker. TV is a surprisingly small business and jobs are hard to get, especially jobs that actually pay a living wage. Many people working for Fox today were working for other entities when Murdoch went on his buying/takeover spree. They found themselves now employees of Newscorp, a division Fox Entertainment. It's hard enough to change jobs in the TV industry, but after a certain age (like the photog that was killed) damn near impossible. Younger people trying to break into the business will take anything to get experience because without experience it is impossible to get jobs that pay better than Channel Podunk or Community Access TV.
