Geez, but he's deeply stupid.

(102,357 posts)and the years later. Atlanta local sportscasters seemed to hang on his every utterance-such as they were. Even speaking to football, he came across this way. Clearly, no time spent in college (yeah, I know) or since has changed his baseline level of knowledge/intellect.
Ironically, even the neuronal synapse-lacking former guy is probably laughing at this--even if he is promoting him.

(17,956 posts)Well, the short time he was at UGA anyway. I've heard numerous anecdotes of SEC football and basketball athletes who were, and probably still are, functionally illiterate. Even today with supposed academic standards. Probably much the same across all of Div I.
GoCubsGo
(32,088 posts)A lot of star athletes are allowed to slip through high school with poor grades, which continues at the university level. They'll be offered crip courses in order to keep their grades up, and never actually learn much of anything. It's an especially common here in the South, where football is THE main religion. I don't know if Walker is actually stupid, or just abysmally-educated. I lean toward the latter, especially when it comes to science, and evolution, in particular.

(26,137 posts)ie he believed, literally, thet black people were straight evolved from apes, and were literally still have ape, half human. So, my uncle would say the apes are black people, and I doubt that dead bastard is far from the only one thinking that.

(17,636 posts)The dumber they are the more the Republicans like them. Walker made fame and fortune in life by running over people. In a system where brawn is valued over brain, he should not be wasting his time running for the Senate, but for the Presidency.
Judging by the path of the Republican Party is taking, their next nominee for President may be a garbage truck. It is big and strong and crushes the opposition. At least that would be an improvement over Greene, Walker, or a host of other Republican politicians.

(102,357 posts)I feel for any sports figures who have to bear the stereotypes about "jock" (especially football player jock) intellect, but Walker, sadly, provides support for the notion.

(15,265 posts)...and it's amazing to me that anyone can still ask that question seriously and not realize the self-parody they're creating.
There are plenty of people who don't believe in evolution, yet they still know this is a very dumb question. You'd think that some of the smarter morons would tell the more moronic morons to stop making them all look so bad.

And don't forget that people and dinosaurs lived at the same time.
And you can't get a cat from a dog so how can you get a bird from a dinosaur?
(I've heard those comments several times. I just smile and don't try to explain. Too much ignorance to fill in during a passing conversation. I just tell them that they clearly don't understand evolution and should know about a topic before trying to discuss it.)

(11,744 posts)We share a common ancestor with all primates, including monkeys, and a closer ancestor with apes, and a closer ancestor with "Great Apes", and a closer one with chimpanzees and bonobos. Each of our distinct species separated and continued on with our clade splitting again many times until we are all that is left of the Homo family Homo Sapiens Sapiens.
There are still other Apes because we haven't managed to kill them all off yet.
