Koch keeps doing business in Russia as top journalist says family fortune came from Hitler: report

By David Badash and The New Civil Rights Movement March 14, 2022

Award-winning journalist Jane Mayer, who literally wrote the book on the Koch Brothers and Koch Industries, pointed to a report published Monday stating, “Koch Industries continues doing business in Russia.” Despite major U.S. corporations shutting down operations after Putin’s illegal war on Ukraine, major U.S.-based multinational corporations, from Apple to Disney to McDonald’s, have responded by pulling out of Vladimir Putin’s Russia.

Mayer’s 2016 book “Dark Money” focuses on Charles Koch and (the now late) David Koch, the powerful conservative billionaire Koch Brothers.

Monday morning in his widely-read newsletter Popular Information Judd Legum reported Koch Industries doesn’t seem to be joining the American movement to isolate Putin and Russia – even after his forces have slaughtered thousands of innocent civilians in Ukraine.

8. John Schnatter, the RWNJ founder, was forced out of the company almost 4 years ago (July 2018)

John Schnatter is speaking out, again, about his chaotic exit from the pizza chain he founded.

In an interview with Bloomberg's Businessweek released Wednesday, Schnatter described his departure from Papa John's in the wake of his use of a racial slur during a conference call as "a crucifixion.”

“It was unethical. It was immoral. It was evil,” he told Bloomberg's Devin Leonard, blaming the ensuing outrage and his ultimate split with the company, Leonard writes, on "duplicitous Papa John’s executives, conniving ad agency reps, public-relations incompetents, the 'progressive elite left.' ”

“The Papa John’s story totally debunks the left’s ideology,” Schnatter told Bloomberg. “This is America. You can live the American dream.”

14. Papa John's International is a publicly traded firm, there is no 'owner' - Here is what happened:

Papa John’s International said last week that it was suspending all of its corporate operations in Russia, following in the footsteps of other high-profile American brands like McDonald’s and Starbucks.

However, the 190 Papa John’s restaurants in the country are still open and selling pizzas. And they have no plans to stop.

These Papa John’s shops are primarily owned by Russians through a franchise agreement with a company controlled by Christopher Wynne, a Colorado native who has lived part time and worked in the country since the early 2000s. And even as the war with Ukraine continues and numerous global food brands and retailers suspend operations and stop selling goods in Russia, little has changed with his operation, said Mr. Wynne, 45.

“The best thing I can do as an individual is show compassion for the people, my employees, franchisees and customers without judging them because of the politicians in power,” he said.

Christopher Wynne is a 'master franchisee' via his firm, PJ Western

12. Wait, didn't Daddy Koch get his fortune from Stalin?

As I recall the story, Fred Koch developed some sort of more efficient oil drilling/recovery process but got shut out by major companies that had their own proprietary processes. But Stalin was willing to pay for Koch to help develop the Soviet oil industry, so FK was contracted to build for Uncle Joe, but took his money to the bank back in the states and built his own conglomerate here.

Doesn't prohibit building stuff for Hitler too, but under the circumstances, why not mention the Stalin connection too?
