Did anyone see Joe Manchin on morning Joe today?

He was blah blah blahing about progressives wanting this and that and suddenly Mike Barnacle came on and asked him why West Virginia is the poorest state and its residents are suffering such hardships. Old Manchin got real defensive and stuttered through some dumb answer.

He must think everyone buys his bs.

Like republicans, they are just playing to their base. They don't care if we buy his BS. Manchin knows he is the best chance any democrats has in WV so he doesn't care to cater to them. He knows democrats in WV have to support him or they will have a republican in that seat. And frankly, I think he is ready to be voted out (like Sinema) when they are up for re-election. Both of them lost too much democratic support to be re-elected.

Edit: And a lot of "independent" or so called "swing voters" buy this kind of "wasteful spending" BS from the right. They have no problem to blow up the budget for tax cuts or military spending. But when it comes to help for everyday Americans, they immediately default to their "too expensive" stance.

As of today, Manchin and Sinema have gutted over 90% of Biden's original $6.1 trillion new spend framework between the BBB (zero out of $3.5 trillion as Manchin has blocked it all, and we have no clue what Sinema would do in terms of voting anyway) and the BIF (only $550 billion out of $2.6 trillion).

As far as your speculation, I am not going to address them because everyone is entitled to their opinions, yours and mine. I am not going to call it shameful like you did to mine.

All I am going to comment on though, is that AOC is popular within some democratic circles and with nation-wide appeal, that doesn't mean she will win in more purple-ish district or red states. Don't forget that WV went for Trump over 30 points. The "democratic base" there is a lot smaller there than other states. You need to somehow pull in "independent" and crossover republican votes to win the senate seat there.

Everyone here hates Moscow Mitch. Even most run-of-the-mill republicans. I've never heard anyone say anything nice about him. Ever. It just seemed funny (in a macabre sort of way) that the elections of Moscow Mitch, Graham and Susan Collins, the polls in those races showed the candidates in a virtual dead-heat with their Democratic opponents yet, they won in landslides. Those races were, coincidentally, using ES&S to tabulate the votes.

I think you're right on the distraction thing. And I literally hate the "no Democrat other than Manchin can win in WV" meme. All any candidate has to do is tell the truth and use Manchin's own words against him to win. The DNC needs to pump money into states like WV instead of pumping money into areas that they are already a lock to win.

Most of the state is unsuitable for manufacturing - or much farming. The part that is suitable - along the Kanawha - you have to contend with an aging infrastructure, and an aging population that isn't that collectively high on the educational scale.

and drive coal powered cars, Mr. Manchin would be very easy to get along with. The people of West Virginia would have their jobs - although dangerous and extremely unhealthy - back again and the local economy would flourish, at least for a little while.

We have to appease Mr. Manchin and give him everything the fossil fuel industry wants or we'll lose our solid 50/50 "majority" in the Senate.

Then we can work on reviving the buggy whip industry, another of West Virginia's aces in the hole, and life would be all bright and shiny again!

I know someone is going to need this.

I honestly don't think he cares. He has the ability to stop or stall indefinitely, any legislation that would curtail the power of his benefactors, not to mention, that would limit his own income. He only has to face his constituents once every 6 years, and because of how the state shapes up demographically, there is little chance of him being unseated in a primary. He is nominally a Democrat, so that means that the Democratic Party HAS TO back him against a Republican
