Nat'l Journal: Trump staring at resounding rejection in GOP primaries

Former President Trump is staring at a real chance that his endorsed candidates go zero-for-three in competitive Senate primaries in May, an outcome that would underscore his already mixed record in primaries and raise serious questions about the depth of his political clout within the Republican Party. Trump’s undisciplined political strategy, seeking to punish any candidate he deems disloyal, faces a wall of resistance in the South, one of the most pro-Trump regions of the country during his presidency.

From North Carolina to Alabama, Senate candidates are failing to capitalize on the Trump seal of approval. Former North Carolina Gov. Pat McCrory has weathered millions in outside attacks from the Trump-allied Club for Growth and leads Trump-endorsed Rep. Ted Budd in several publicly released polls. Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp now leads former Sen. David Perdue by double digits in multiple polls, while holding a significant financial advantage down the home stretch. Trump-endorsed Rep. Mo Brooks has underperformed so badly in Alabama’s Senate race that the former president is reportedly considering endorsing one of his leading rivals. All these primaries will be taking place in May.

It’s too bad that GOP candidates don’t tell trump to pound sand....yes I’m being polite😬. He is just a big mouthed ego maniac that for some reason people are afraid of. If he talked to ordinary people the way he talks about some candidates his but would be kicked real quick. Until some brave soul tells him to stfu and tells him to “bring it on” he will keep running his mouth. Look at how much money he’s raised and hasn’t given a dime to any candidates....he’s keeping it for himself. And his sheeple supporters don’t see that...pathetic.

There are probably some people who should run for office from the GOP that might actually be willing to work withDemocrats to do something usefull for this country. But don’t because they won’t or don’t want to put up with trump and his Stupid BS.

I live in Red country and Trump signs and Trump fanatics are everywhere.

Trump may not win the primary (personally, I doubt he will run), but he still has the power to disrupt and divide the GOP base.

Voters who think their Party is not listening to them tend not to vote very enthusiastically, which would be a boon for Democrats.

he's had a few successes along the way, but he lost the 2018 House and Senate.

We need to GOTV this fall and build our majorities in both houses of Congress.

eventually. The conventional wisdom in the GQP has been that a Trump endorsement is essential if you hope to win. Well, that is changing fast, and it's more likely to cost you your primary race now, or your general election race should you make it that far.

A Trump endorsement is no longer an asset in most places. Just the opposite, now.
