(14,061 posts)If she has veto power over Keith Olbermann, surely that extends to Chuck Todd.
If MSNBC really does this, its screwed. Its more than enough that Chuck had MTP Daily.

(14,061 posts)Dont really see him on MSNBC too much. Hes usually on NBC on election nights. I think MSNBC would see that hes really not a good nighttime fit for its demographic, unlike NBC, that has a wider audience.

(12,153 posts)I neglected to say I'd watch Chris Hayes too. Chris and Lawrence.

(43,330 posts)I love Chris Hayes too, same for Ali Velshi and Alicia Mendez, and like most of the others. Yes, that deffo includes Ari Melber and Mehdi Hasan, who seem to put some here on a stroke-out path. I so wish Maya Wiley would get her own show. She is brilliant.
I detest Fuck Toad and Andrea Mitchell.
I greatly prefer MSNBC over CNN.

(43,330 posts)biggest slot. He would alienate some viewers who like to colour within the lines a bit more.
Strictly talking business now, btw, not my own personal ideological slant.

But I think that was your point.
I've been watching less and less cable news. I get most of my news from newspaper articles posted by DUers here.
My other source is Randi Rhodes, but I've been a fan of hers since 2003. She does her homework (and so do I).

(14,176 posts)for a possible CNN show while he was under contract with MSNBC. I had to check to make sure I remembered correctly and it was *12 years ago*! I can't believe it's been that long.

(140 posts)Why don't the MSNBC executives ask TRMS staff members with whom they would like to work? They probably know who of all the possible anchors would carry on their and Rachel's work best.
(I particularly like Medhi Hassan's in-depth and follow-up questioning.)
FakeNoose
(32,634 posts)Rachel's showrunners aren't going anywhere, they still work for the NBC conglomerate. Rachel is temporarily making a documentary with Ben Stiller. Once she's done with that project, she'll be back on TV with a better format. I think she'll be on a couple times per week with a longer show.
Your point about her staff, I agree totally. Those showrunners want to see this succeed, and I'm sure they have opinions about how and with whom they want to work. Chuck Todd is a no-go. If MSNBC executives can't see that, they're hopelessly out of touch.

(154 posts)to block Chuck Todd like she did with Olbermann. KO is an outsider who burned bridges repeatedly and hasn't worked daily in TV in a while.
Chuck Todd, who I personally don't care for, is the Political Director for NBC News and hosts Meet the Press. He clearly has a power base and fans within the network. Despite all his poor punditry and lacking interview skills, he appears to have friendly personal relations with many.

I can think of no rational reason for such a move.

(58,785 posts)they could to best help throw the midterms to the Republicans.
There're reasons they spread him and his subversion all over daytime hours in electoral seasons, though, and I believe they must include that day viewers average more gullible and less informed, and evening viewers the reverse. And they all have the same one vote.
I don't believe this'll turn out to be anything.
That said, I wouldn't put anything past NBCInternational/MSNBC's decisionmakers. Might be they'd consider shattering their liberal evening viewership worthwhile if the numbers suggested it'd help the Republicans. Those who imagine business is always all about profits are very mistaken.
And the stakes -- money, power, ideology -- are beyond enormous.
