The House committee investigating the Jan. 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol is not planning to issue subpoenas to members of Congress who are alleged to have information regarding the events leading up to and surrounding the attack, sources familiar with the matter tell ABC News.
While the panel had requested information from Republicans including House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy and Reps. Scott Perry and Jim Jordan -- all of whom swiftly rejected the requests -- there have been no follow-up discussions with them about their cooperation, according to sources familiar with the panel's work.
For a committee that's been aggressive in its investigative efforts, moving ahead without compelling lawmakers to cooperate through a subpoena reflects a self-imposed limitation as committee members work to balance the legal, political and practical considerations.

Something just doesn't seem to add up. Why is this all taking so long for this committee to have open hearings? Why? Why? Why?
Seems like a lot of questions - with no answers.
Who is being protected here?

(15,193 posts)Why waste time when you know every subpoena would be fought for months in the courts.
I think the committee will put out all the damaging evidence they have, then offer these Congressional traitors the "opportunity" to "revise and extend" their remarks.
Put out the evidence you have. After that, if the voters still vote to send these traitors back to office, turn the lights out on this country, because it's dead!

(36,236 posts)The committee's chairperson, Rep. Bennie Thompson, D-Miss., said the committee was studying whether it had the ability to issue subpoenas to their colleagues. Thompson told ABC News in December that he wasn't sure if they would be able to force members to cooperate.
"If we subpoena them and they choose not to come, I'm not aware of a real vehicle that we can force compliance," Thompson said.

(9,670 posts)The culprits have been identified no doubt by a myriad of witnesses. There is probably physical evidence of their involvement as well. I wouldn't read this as some sort of sorcery or malfeasance on the part of the DOJ. More likely it takes away the feigned indignancy of these traitors who would march up to a microphone to cast aspersions if subpoenaed. Remember, this doesn't say they won't be indicted....just not subpoenaed.

screech, insult, take umbrage with every question asked...or McCarthy question the legitimacy of the committee? I do hope the J6 committee airs the video of Jordans motor-mouth CYA dodge and weave when asked if he spoke to Trump during the siege
