A decade ago it was overwhelmingly Russophone, and most of the Ukr speakers spoke surzhyk.

Surzhyk is a mixed language that results from heavily Russified Ukrainian, not quite a creole, certainly not a pidgin, possible only because the two languages are rather similar.

They also bombed a swimming pool where people were taking shelter. But fewer than in the theater. Reporters are saying it was dropped by a plane. Not a large distance from the DNR to Mariupol.
