Local Reporter Praised For Viral Interview Pushing Idaho Lt. Governor on White Nationalist Ties: As Painful As This is to Watch It Matters
Brian Holmes, a reporter with Boises KTVB-TV, grilled Lt. Gov. Janice McGeachin (R-ID) in late February for addressing a white nationalist event, in an interview that has since gone viral on social media. Holmes confronted McGeachin after she made a video appearance at Nick Fuentes America First Political Action Conference in Orlando at the end of February.
Republican Reps. Paul Gosar (R-AZ) and Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) also spoke at the conference, receiving resounding condemnation, even from within their own party. At the time, Republican National Committee Chair Ronna McDaniel slammed their appearance, issuing a statement that read: White supremacy, neo-Nazism, hate speech and bigotry are disgusting and do not have a home in the Republican Party.
Fuentes, who organized the event, is a known Holocaust denier and leads the so-called Groyper Army, which is dedicated to moving the American Right toward white nationalism.
Holmes asked McGeachin, Are you familiar with who puts this event on? Like, Nick Fuentes?

They keep trying to deny their white supremacist ties and allegiance with this bullshit 'your doing guilt by association' schtick... The problem is, it was a white supremacist gathering, every fucking person there was a white supremacist so... Yeah, you are guilty.

(22,479 posts)said something about how you should stop worrying because God takes care of the flowers in the fields so he would surely take care of you.
It would be nice if more Christians would call out the whole hypocrisy of those using their religion as a blunt beating instrument against others or for money raising money purposes for enriching the few.
I can always hope and pray that that day is near...

(9,998 posts)Their arguments were ridiculous. He was saying how Idaho used to be a Blue state.
Reality is, the last Democrat to win their Electoral Votes, was LBJ in 1964, with 50.5% of the vote.
Prior to that, it was Truman.

(42,309 posts)at least do a little preparation for when the questions come up. That was painful to watch.
gratuitous
(82,849 posts)Nobody on the conservative side ever mentions Rev. Jeremiah Wright and his One Sermon, or Saul Alinsky, or any of dozens of other far-right booga-boogas designed to elicit a knee-jerk reaction from their supporters rather than engage their minds or advance a national conversation.
The Lt. Gov. looks awfully uncomfortable "explaining" herself (without explaining anything).

(11,736 posts)Whether we like it or not WE ARE GUILTY if we WILLINGLY associate with people with horrific views.
Here is an example of improper and proper "guilt by association".
I have a former friend who got into gang life and did some shitty things. As I saw the shitty things they were doing, I said, "You need to stop that shit. I cannot be your friend if you are doing that shit". They continued so I stopped talking to them and ceased any kind of interaction, criticizing the things they were doing and their decision to do it. Someone comes to me and says, You know "so and so" and they are a thug, so you must be a thug too" THIS is improper guilt by association. To try to tie me to a person that I have not seen, talked to, heard from in decades, and who I routinely and publicly denounced is just stupid.
Now... If I know that this person is a gang member, that they routinely commit crimes and hurt people, that they are remorseless and happy to do those things, and I CHOOSE to hang out with them and are NEVER critical of their actions and the impacts, then I am GUILTY by Association of condoning those actions. If I do not oppose them in someone I know personally, then I can't go out and say, "Being a gangster and hurting people is not cool" while I sit and have a beer with a gangster who hurts people.
This, dog shit Lt. Governor CHOSE to be onstage with Fuentes. If I got invited to speak at an event HOSTED by White Supremacists, I would decline (as Adam Kinzinger did with going on Tucker Carlson) and if by some stupid reason I did not know, went there, and found out, I would walk out of the event as fast as I could.

(5,969 posts)Going to an event lead by a white nationalist and anti-semite but no accountability for the association while you legitimize him.
It's like going to a Hitler rally and saying: "Hitler who? I only wanted to talk to my passionate base".

(13,582 posts)Our Lt. Governor is real racist crackpot. This reporter did a good job of pressing her on the legitimate issue of speaking at a White Supremacist event and adding her credibility to it. Her talking points are paper thin and its obvious that even she knows their bullshit.
I hope we can dump her.
A HERETIC I AM
(24,368 posts)She talked about the open borders and all that other dog whistle crap which really means;
The USA is becoming less white and less Christian and as a result our power and influence is on the decline and we just cant have that.
Those thousands and thousands of young conservatives she mentioned?
Yeah
.white kids who never had to worry about a thing in their lives and wouldnt understand compassion and decency if it stood on their foot.
(I looked for this but couldnt find it: A a couple years ago there was a video of this group of young, college age white boys walking around the lobby and halls of some Conservative convention, chanting and carrying on like they were special. It went viral because of how cringy and dopey it was, but one comment by a woman shined above all others; My hymen just grew back after watching that !! )
