(21,346 posts)a former official of the government of Belarus who went into exile when Lukashenko became the head of Belarus.
So, what do I make of it? Sounds like he has some legitimate points, but I don't know enough of the details about his role in Belarus to comment further. Looks like he could be making a plea for world help in getting Lukashenko out as leader of Belarus and Russia out of the country. It will be interesting to see how the world responds to him, if it does.

(7,290 posts)If the Belarus military would join the Ukraine fight to expel russia from their countries would be great.

(6,462 posts)First the Hague court gave the first provisional order for Russia to leave Ukraine. Russia is being examined as a war criminal. Belarus is only one or two steps behind that designation. They have been caught up in sanctions along with Russia.
Lukashenko recently visited Russia.
Not sure what to make of those planes firing on Belarus fairly recently. That was so odd, except, perhaps they were firing on protestors??
I don't know who the spokesman is on this video. It was a nice summation. He outlined the events, stated the position they want to take, and offered solutions. I don't blame Belarussians for Lukashenko. I blame Putin.
If the fighting persists, I wonder if they will appeal at the UN. Not sure what to make out of there being explosions in all those cities. But, as we have seen in Ukraine, Russians are not fussy about who they kill, and it sounds like they are now shooting up Belarussian neighborhoods. But, I don't know.
If Belarus put up the same fight as Ukraine is doing, Putin will be in a lot of trouble. A lot of fronts to fight on. Plus, the whole shape of that area of the world will change. I thought that Moldova was at heavy risk as well, but now, I don't know. And, on the other side of Belarus is Lithuania, Latvia, and Estonia. I would not like to see a fight in Belarus turn into an attempt to take one of those countries.
We can look forward to either silence on the matter, or Russia standing up there claiming that Belarus is the aggressor. I can see why Belarus would now like to shed themselves of Lukashenko; now is their moment to become a Democracy.
Keep an eye on Kaliningrad. Russia has significant assets parked up there.

(14,941 posts)I remember how helpless I felt during the Trump years. I cannot imagine how much worse it could have been. Blessed are the peacemakers. And the truth tellers.

(21,346 posts)Could put up a fight like Ukrainians are doing. Do they have the weapons and military training that Ukraine has? Not to mention that Lukashenko and Putin are in control of whatever military power Belarus has.
If the Belarussian people rebel against Lukashenko and Putin, they will be squashed.
