Keith Olbermann Lobbied MSNBC to Have Him Replace Chris Hayes: Your 8 p.m. Show Is Dying of Thirst During a Flood:
Keith Olbermann reportedly lobbied hard for another stint at MSNBC in recent years and wanted to return to the network at the expense of Chris Hayes.
The Daily Beast reported Monday that Olbermann politicked for a gig filling in for Rachel Maddow during her hiatus. She used her veto power to keep him away.
According to Puck News, the thrice fired face of three different TV networks was in talks with NBCUniversal CEO Jeff Shell for another round at MSNBC.

Per Pucks Dylan Byers, Olbermann really wanted Hayes time slot, which he said was dragging down MSNBC in primetime.
After using his relationship with Shell to establish a line of communication during former President Donald Trumps term, Olbermann lobbied for a job.
An email exchange between the pair began in December of 2019. On Feb. 25, 2020, a dinner between them was scheduled for April of 2020.

(46,016 posts)She once made a joke about his girlfriend, and he blocked her from getting on Current TV for a while. The man is brilliant, but it appears he's not overly nice.

(46,016 posts)And he can be incredibly funny. His writing is powerful. I always thought he was one of the best commentators against BushII, but he kept getting fired because he couldn't get along with people.

Now, he might be a petty bitch. But that's something different.

(1,609 posts)It use to be on my TV most of the day in the house but I only really watched a couple of people. I could no longer justify giving them my time just for 2 hosts. I mean, Morning Joe, Kasie Hunt, Chris Hayes, Chuck Todd are all awful. I use to like Joy Reid but she changed so she was put on the list with the other awful ones. I got tired of just complaining about their shows and decided the only way they know people do not like what they do is to shut them off.

(1,609 posts)I don't get it. I know democrats who watch those shows only to complain about how awful they are. Shut them off, I say.

(13,776 posts)I loved his show, his commentary, his outrage.
Then I read about how difficult he is to work with, so while I still miss him I understand why he's not back.
I do wish he could keep his temper in check, because he's responsible for MSNBC's keel to the left and I am so incredibly grateful for that. He's made a huge difference to the world (well, to the USA anyway, which does influence the world as well as our place in it), and that's a profound legacy. Also, he loves dogs. So I miss him, wish him well, and would love to see him on my TV screen again, although I know that's unlikely.

(93,834 posts)I simply don't have an opinion (pro or con) about news personalities. Nor do I spend my evenings watching shows talking about the news I watched in the afternoon.

(10,885 posts)Without tRump in the WH, all these cable shows have suffered in their programming and viewership. Reading here, it sounds as though many DUers have backed away from cable programming since the administration change. I know, personally, that's definitely true for me.
When TFG was in office, I was glued to nighttime cable, if only to see what the stupid F*** had destroyed during the day. I started with Chris Hayes, Rachel, Lawrence, and then BriWi. At midnight I'd switch to CNN for Anderson, Chris Cuomo, and Don Lemon. With Joe Biden at the helm, I'm much less frantic about ingesting the political news via cable. I get much of my news from reading clips and articles here instead.
It pains to admit TFG was right about something.
KO might be a draw for me though. I always enjoyed his former show, and would certainly be curious enough to watch a new revival.
