Daily Beast contributing editor Craig Copetas says hes been told that Putin has people tasting his food before he eats it and that last month, he replaced his entire personal staff of 1,000 people.
Vladimir Putin appeared on Russian state TV today to denounce Russians who opposed his war with Ukraine as scum and traitors.
But behind the scenes, the dictator is increasingly paranoid and fears that someone in his inner circle will poison him, a new report says.
Daily Beast contributing editor Craig Copetas says hes been told that Putin has people tasting his food before he eats it and that last month, he replaced his entire personal staff of 1,000 people.
Laundresses, secretaries, cooks to a whole new group of people. The assessment from the intelligence community is that he's scared, Copetas said.

This reeks of desperation on the part of Pooty Poot.

Putin is now purging the FSB.
Now he's purging his personal staff.
A story came out the other day that he had purged 8 of his generals.
This is chaos, and we can help accelerate it.

I'm sure they can't wait to put on the Russian uniform and strike terror into the hearts of Zelinsky and the cowardly Ukrainians, who won't do the reasonable thing and give up.

(21,341 posts)with the territory. Absolute rule creates many enemies. Dictators cannot share power, or tolerate alternative views, so they must eliminate all perceived threats to their absolute authority.
This means that they must be continually on the lookout for threats and dissenters.
Stalin purged thousands, or millions, to consolidate and preserve his power. Hitler purged his militia (the SA) once he no longer needed them and saw them as a threat.
Being a dictator is to play a perpetual game of "king of the mountain" with a constant stream of challengers. It's the nature of the business, just like being a mob boss.
EDIT TO ADD: The beauty of democracy is that it creates a system that acknowledges the desire to challenge power and allows for the peaceful challengers to "battle" each other verbally, not for control, but for enough followers to chiose them in an election. And democracy limits the amount of time a leader can serve in the top office.

(9,958 posts)Im sure the FSB has access to Novichok, which isnt in food. All it needs is someone close enough to touch him, such as a food server or even a cleaning person. If Putin truly is ill, as has been reported, someone taking blood for tests would be in a perfect position. There are many opportunities, and I hope one of them works soon.
