“Many Russian generals are talking on unsecured phones and radios. In at least one instance…the Ukrainians intercepted a general’s call, geolocated it, and attacked his location, killing him and his staff.”

And maybe it's a good thing they know, because that makes it even harder for them to transmit information.

They didn’t know they were being listened to.
They didn’t know exactly how the Ukrainians were able to locate him. Now they know.

Loose lips sink ships.

Don’t tell them how you found them, just find them and Kill them.

They took out the cell towers so that Ukrainians would not be able to use them without thinking they also needed them. They know all they have are unsecure radio. They just don't have much of a choice.

This is from March 8th.

In an intercepted phone call, independently confirmed by fact-checking group Bellingcat, two apparent Russian FSB officers discuss the death of the general outside of Kharkiv.

“In the call, you hear the Ukraine-based FSB officer ask his boss if he can talk via the secure Era system. The boss says Era is not working,” Bellingcat executive director Christo Grozev said on Twitter.

“Era is a super expensive cryptophone system that [Russia’s defense ministry] introduced in 2021 with great fanfare. It guaranteed [to] work ‘in all conditions’.”

However, "the idiots tried to use the Era cryptophones in Kharkiv, after destroying many 3G cell towers and also replacing others with stingrays," Grozev continued. "Era needs 3G/4G to communicate.

The Russian army is equipped with secure phones that can't work in areas where the Russian army operates."

Stingrays are eavesdropping devices that mimic cell towers, meaning that mobiles connect to them, allowing for data to be intercepted.

that some of these may have been intentional "suicide by Ukrainians". That way, they can at least keep their family safe when they refuse to do the horrific things they are being ordered to do.

All militaries, militias, police forces, and other force actors have operational security, more or less.

It denotes how they secure the details of operations during planning and especially while ongoing.

Think Navajo Code Talkers.

and here I thought they were using WWII tactics. At the Battle of Tannenberg in 1914, Germans were intercepting Russian radio signals, some of which were in the clear or using very simple cyphers.

Time wounds all heels.

heard about cell phone tracking, they'll probably just call it fake news propaganda and continue to use their
cell phones because that's what they like using. Granted some would take it serious if they heard about it.
