I have translated and added subtitles to the latest video speech by Vladimir Putin from two hours ago. Please dont let it go in vain - I want everyone to see what a speech of true fascism looks like.

I just hope there are people between him and the button that will prevent the worst.

(11,736 posts)It is meant to evoke emotion. Fear and anger, that is the goal. Fear in people who oppose Putin, anger in supporters who may think that there are "traitors in our midst".
While most speeches try to engage and connect on some emotional level with the audience, the speech of an authoritarian will primarily deal with fear and anger.
Think about Trump's speeches, the only time that they took any kind of "positive" tone was when Trump would say stupid things like, "I alone can fix this" and "We're going to build the most powerful wall..." and other such nonsense.
Putin is more intelligent than Trump so his speeches will be more sound, but the message is the same, "We are strong, we have a special history, that history and our destiny are under attack by enemies from the outside and from within. We need to crush them. Only under my leadership will that happen". Just a generic, authoritarian speech.

and
Putin's "higher caste" with the GOP's "elites"
and you have a complete match

(11,736 posts)I immediately thought that it sounded like the rallies at Nuremberg and something Hitler, Franco, or Mussolini would say. Definitely fascism. Also sound like what Trump would try to say (except Trump really sucks at public speaking).
