I can believe Sean Penn as John Mitchell (great makeup job!), but Julia Roberts as Martha Mitchell? That’s a bridge too far. It looks from the trailer like they’re trying to depict Martha as a sage, brave heroine, but she was more like a gadfly with a drinking problem and a penchant for telling uncomfortable truths. I always believed Martha was honest regarding being held captive and drugged, but it was an incredibly misogynistic time and it wasn’t hard to assume that Martha was just a kook.
