Father, son pulled from car, viciously beaten by dirt bikers in Harlem

https://abc7ny.com/harlem-dirt-bike-attack-father-son-beaten-by-dirtbikers-bikers-manhattan/11657827/

HARLEM, Manhattan (WABC) -- A father and son were pulled out of their car in Harlem and were viciously beaten by a group of dirt bikers.

The bikers surrounded and attacked a 64-year-old man and his 36-year-old son on Tuesday. The group dragged them out of their car and repeatedly punched and kicked the two near the intersection of St. Nicholas Terrace and West 127th Street.

What the hell is going on in NYC? My relatives in Brooklyn are retiring soon and moving out this fall. Everyone they know is looking to leave the Big Apple. They've had their apartment broken into twice, once while they were home.

I'm not complaining about your choice of words, but the TV station's choice of words.

These aren't really dirt bikers. They might be driving off-road bikes, but they stay on city streets. City rights-of-way, I should say, as that includes sidewalks, where the people riding the bikes also drive.

I don't know what the TV station should say instead.

It's been a multi city growing problem. I don't have a problem if the riders don't endanger themselves, harass others or don't commit crimes. Some have become brazen and ruined it for others. As a kid we learned amateur mechanics by working on our dirt bikes and mini bikes but we mostly kept off streets and out of the way. It was a time consuming hobby that kept is busy and out of trouble. At worst the cops told us we were too noisy and to avoid houses that complained about the noise. Fundamentally we learned how to peacefully co-exist.

When things become brazen that's when everyone pays.

With the warm weather, they'll be out in Philadelphia, Baltimore, DC, Arlington ...

Thanks for the thread, depressing though it may be.

I understand what you're saying.

I wish the city would figure out a way how to find some space for the aspiring mechanics to let off some steam.

If you're going to illegally ride on the streets at least obey the traffic laws so you don't endanger yourself or others. Or at least minimize it.

dirt bikes for street use. They pandered to the off road industry making them street worthy.

Sunday mornings are usually a bad time. They commandeer a road like the West Side Highway or FDR Drive and go wild. Times has had articles about it.

Police say it happened after one of the bikers ran a red light and collided with the car.

Before taking off, the attackers stole a cellphone, a wallet, and some cash.

If someone is trying to pull you out, you've met the standard to be in fear for your life. You can be beaten to death or beaten to near death with permanent brain damage. Tear out of there and get away. If they try to box you in, you have several tons of machine at your disposal.

good advice perhaps if you're attacked by pedestrians. when your attackers are on faster, more maneuverable vehicles, deescalation is probably smarter. running down people is likely to be met with even greater force when they catch you at the next light, if you are even able to drive that far in city traffic.
