So-sometimes I need a little perspective. This week was spring break but I have been sick all week. Apparently I had/have a nasty stomach bug. Today is payday and our plans were to go eat and then go to Coach in the mall. Because I am still not feeling the best we came home instead of going to the mall. We would have been inside the mall when the shooting started. We did eat at Longhorns right outside the mall and left about 20 minutes before the shooting.
So while I may have been feeling sorry for myself because I was sick all week, 2 things come to mind. I did not get shot and I did not miss any classtime days with my babies.

(25,916 posts)Lloyd Center in Portland, OR, ca 1977. The shooter was on the roof of the building, targeting passersby outside. A cop had taken cover behind a parked car and ordered me to do the same. I remained behind a parked car for 30 minutes or so, until he was apprehended.

(50,932 posts)in one of the buildings, had been there twice a week for months without incident, so I blithely walked into the complex courtyard seconds before the cops arrived. I had no idea that there was a man with a gun on a high floor in one of the buildings who had been shooting sporadically into the courtyard for about a half hour. Totally unaware of what was happening, I walked the path past two of the buildings, always getting closer to the building where the shooter was. Then a bunch of cops ran up behind me and shoved me into a doorway.
I was never aware of the danger I was in until I was safe.
What I will never understand is that some of the cops then ran back out into the courtyard and into the building where the guy was.
No one was shot that day, but it seems like a miracle none of us was.

(64,951 posts)Closest I came to "too close" was a bad fire at a hotel in France where I had stayed a couple weeks prior.
Your situation is way closer to discomfort!
