(31,523 posts)Lots of signs for local races. A lot of people will vote for Romney, but I don't see any enthusiasm about it.

(16,177 posts)called Pinellas Park I saw more r/r , southern st pete and surrounding areas, more OBAMA.

(39,961 posts)That's no surprise LOL.
My friend lived there and she gave us directions to her house. It was quite memorable. "If you reach the house that has a bathtub on the front lawn, you've gone too far. Take a right when you see the toilet sitting on the corner." There were further landmarks like the two cars on blocks and the house with the shutters falling off.

(16,177 posts)is the locals actually think that rmoney would give a crap about them.
We both know what the basic political motivation is there.

(39,961 posts)Stupidity at it's finest. It's like the dog show of being an idiot.

(14,040 posts)Of course, I'm in one of those states that don't matter in the Presidential election. It's a lock for the President.
pintobean
(18,101 posts)but, I'm not seeing very many of either. I have a neighbor with six Obama signs. If I count them individually, my answer would be Obama.

(34,414 posts)We went blue, but I will be surprised if we do it again. Last time was 1964, but who knows?
Aerows
(39,961 posts)Of course, in my neighborhood, the POA prohibits them. In other areas, though, where they are allowed, I still don't see either - just signs for local candidates for various positions.

(18,402 posts)Of course, I live in a big city, so you don't see yard signs altogether. But I went last weekend to visit my parents in Indiana, and I was surprised at how few signs I saw. Really, almost none. A couple for Obama, who won't win there anyway. So I don't think evidence of yard signs is dispositive.
Are people just not wanting to advertise their leanings this election season? And if so, why?
(Disclosure: I wear a small "Team 2012" enameled Obama pin on my coat lapel, but it's pretty subtle.)

(11,076 posts)They have no regard for the law and stick these things everywhere. Saw one Romneybot sticking a sign in the right of way, one foot from the road and then hop back in her SUV. I pulled up beside her and rolled down my window and asked her if she had just set that sign. She nodded yes behind her window glass. She did not roll her window down and ignored me when I told her that the sign was not in a legal spot. She put her car in gear and rushed away.
Never fear, I would return in the morning and remove it. Praise the lord...it had vanished before I got there. I think there are many of us who are sick of these lawless folks.

(23,278 posts)quite a few Obama signs at UT prof homes....and one humble Condo.
tammywammy
(26,582 posts)Well, there's plenty by the courthouse where people are voting. Even there I didn't see a lot of Romney signs.
I'm seeing more Obama bumper stickers than Romney.
Cairycat
(1,706 posts)but there's hotly contested Statehouse races here, into which the R superpacs are throwing a lot of money - there's about equal numbers of those signs.

(18,541 posts)Teh stoopidity, it buuuuuurrrrnnnns.

(5,165 posts)I've seen a couple Obama signs. There was ONE Romney sign that got torn up. But I've seen more signs for Gary Johnson, and they're on the same lawns that had Ron Paul signs during the primary.

(11,795 posts)But it's a really small, very wealthy town.

(42,724 posts)In my northern virginia neighborhood there are still more Obama signs than Romney, but just barely. The number of Obama signs is comparable to 2008, the number of Romney signs is considerably greater than there were McCain signs in 2008.
Scuba
(53,475 posts)... as the Republicans give away free signs (or pay you to put one in your yard) while simultaneously stealing Democratic signs and intimidating Democratic voters through a variety of threats and actions.
justabob
(3,069 posts)in Dallas, but I live on the outside edge of a wealthy, conservative neighborhood. There are not as many Romney signs as there were McCain signs last time around though. In my more liberal neighborhood, there are a few Obama signs and no Romney. Bumper stickers are more evenly split around town.
side note....I also saw a Bush Quayle sticker on a *new* car the other day... WTF?
B Calm
(28,762 posts)more Obama signs. But within the last few weeks I'm seeing more Romney signs. But I see less signs for president than I ever have seen in past elections!
HappyMe
(20,277 posts)1 Romney and 1 Obama sign. No bumper stickers, except for those goofy stick family ones.
Savannahmann
(3,891 posts)Georgia is going Romney. Do we expect Georgia to do anything else?
Arctic Dave
(13,812 posts)But I have seen way more Obama bumperstickers.
Ron Paul has supporters still. LOL
nevergiveup
(4,762 posts)there are 100 Romney signs for every 1 Obama sign. There are Romney yard signs everywhere. I have seen maybe 6 Obama yard signs and a couple of them were homemade.

(50 posts)I wish I didn't live in this bigot state. I made a huge mistake coming here. Jan glug glug Btewer. Pearce pushing 1070, Mc Cain & Kyl our great senators?, and The worst sherriff in America Joe Arpaio.
LP2K12
(885 posts)In Florida. Pasco (red) county. Lots of Obama bumper stickers though.
CreekDog
(46,192 posts)which he won with nearly 80% of the vote in 2008?
yard signs mean shit.
Even when we do buy them, they get stolen.
This year the office was out of them so I stuck to bumper stickers...which people still removed from my car.
1-Old-Man
(2,667 posts)Someone got to those people and made those signs available to them, made them want to put them up. That wasn't done with a TV ad, it was person to person contact somewhere. This is in fact important, there are many parts of the country that have been essentially abandoned by both major parties and just a knock on the door or a sign in the yard might be just enough to make a difference.
That said I'm glad you live in a democratically safe neighborhood, your's will cancel out mine, where he probably won't win despite the 4 votes this household will deliver.
CreekDog
(46,192 posts)when I worked in Nevada in 2008, we didn't hand out signs, but we contacted every one of our voters and staffed every precinct in the region. we had a ton of people a ton of ground game and won the Reno area by over 10 percent.
the McCain ground game, though he had signs all over, was nonexistent at the polls, in the precinct walking and ultimately, in the results (in an area won by Bush just 4 years prior).
the signs mean squat because they are just signs.
and the Obama campaign then and probably now said that they want people and voters --NOT SIGNS.
now back to your regularly scheduled confusion.
CreekDog
(46,192 posts)that's utter garbage.
Ask Ron Paul, i've seen more of his signs than anyone else's this year.
MADem
(135,425 posts)Warren outnumbers Brown, but only slightly. In the local (state/city/town) races, GOP signs seem to have a very slight advantage over the Dem ones (that could be, I admit, my rising ire any time I see one).

(4,482 posts)I just hope that they won't be flying all over the neighborhood when Hurricane Sandy arrives tomorrow.

(3,370 posts)We were seeing a lot of Romney initially, but more and more Obama signs have gone up in the past two weeks. There have always been more Obama bumper stickers than Romney. Also, I have seen more homemade Obama signs.
demwing
(16,916 posts)I've heard they are free, whereas the Obama signs are going at $6 each.
tavernier
(12,394 posts)not in many places, but where they are up they have put up not one but a dozen. Strange.
No bumper stickers either way. Four years ago McCain/Palin and Obama were stuck on every car bumper and window in town. This year, nuttin'.
jackbenimble
(251 posts)Mostly the ones who have yard signs at all look like used car lots with an overabundance, all republican. I have seen very few for the Democrats. Sadly even the lady at the end of the street who had a McCaskill sign up is now sign free, don't know what happened to our sign. I have heard though that yard signs are being stolen a lot around here. So either the rethuglicans are stealing rethuglican signs so they can make a big impact by filling their yards with them or the reason I'm not seeing any Democrat signs because they are all being stolen.
reusrename
(1,716 posts)lots of Romney, and they all went up at once, right after that first debate
it seemed like astroturfing to me at the time, now I'm almost sure of it
(when you do see Obama stuff, it's always bigger and better)

(10,000 posts)Mostly, I see NOTA. I see a lot of yard signs for Senate and for state legislature and other local offices with no presidential sign.
I'd say bumper stickers about even.

(2,566 posts)My dad has had his stolen twice...there aren't any around town either (small town about 2500 people) there WERE Obama signs but they're gone. Yeah that's their mentality. Steal the election.

(2,769 posts)However, in Massachusetts it's all about Warren vs. Brown.
There are a TON of signs for both of them. It's hard to say who has more signs.
I think it's Warren. I hope she wins.

(82,383 posts)Occasional Rmoney signs, no Obama signs, many local/state race signs.
The Rmoney signs are hopeless and the Obama signs are pretty much not needed. State is in the bag for Obama and only has 3 votes anyway, so nobody at Presidential level worries about it much.
Senator Carper only has a few signs. D Senator, practically does not even have to campaign, a la Joe Biden in 2008 for Senator.
Democratic governor and Democratic representative - their challengers put up some signs.
Really happy to live in such a blue state.

(3,118 posts)The quantity and size of the Romney signs increases as you go into counties west and south. Far fewer Obama signs than at less election and hardly any bumper stickers for anyone. Maybe bumper stickers have fallen out of favor as a campaign item?

(72,790 posts)I've seen more signs for state and local offices.

(1,984 posts)many of the Romney signs are at the edge of large properties and ranches that are no doubt owned by very wealthy people
