As a night owl, I have trouble with going an hour forward. Id rather stay at Standard Time even though it gets dark earlier.
What do you prefer?

(15,385 posts)It's not worth living anymore if my Summers get dark at a pathetic 7:30 PM.

(65,173 posts)When I think summer, I do think long daylight.

(15,385 posts)Call me selfish, but I don't care about kids going to school in the dark or people going to work in darkness. My Summer comes first.

(14,854 posts)Driving to work in the dark isn't unusual either.

(15,385 posts)I drive home in the dark, and have driven to work in the dark as well when I had really early shifts.

(3,414 posts)I really don't care which it is, just set the damn clocks and leave them the hell ALONE!

(192 posts)I much prefer it to stay light later and not get woken up before I want to be by an early sunrise.

(63,221 posts)I am rarely up before the sun anyway, and I like it lighter in the evenings, so I'm all in for DST.

(14,854 posts)Please, no.
Sunset in December is about 4:15pm, so I'd prefer to be on Daylight time then, too.

(43,317 posts)One thing in closing:
Bear in mind that I live vastly further north (Stockholm) than probably 99% of posters here, and not having DST in winter means at times it starts to get dark between 1 and 2 PM, plus, we are getting (as we in the EU switch to DST 2 weeks later than the US) sunrises starting before 5 am already now atm. Also, I do not even live in the northern half of Sweden, and it only gets worse the farther north you go here.
Mariana
(14,854 posts)that has very little to do with "the way Nature intended". Imagine that.

(6,679 posts)I don't care more light morning or evening. Considering our global business partners we need to get on board with GMT and stay there

(2,294 posts)So strange to me that the news stories dont mention that permanent DST was tried and tossed out. It was very unpopular. Catching the school bus in the dark was interesting, but parents generally didnt like it.

(2,294 posts)Lots of evidence kids are better with a later school day any way. But then the parents workday has to start later. Every solution has downsides, which folks can address as they go. I dont have a strong opinion either way, just am surprised that the 1974 experiment has been lost to memory. We seem to waste so much time failing to learn from our experience.
