Hope the systems can get up an running quickly. Guess it depends on which systems are being used...and maybe some trained volunteers from NATO countries to "teach" the Ukranians how to operate said systems.

that means something in wartime right now.

THIS is the wrong part -- as in not fact-checked or media corroborated:

NATO just announced that it is sending an air defense system to Ukraine in order to help it fight off Russia’s bomber jets ...

So everyone shouldn't get excited about that part.

Everyone knows that planes are being sent to Ukraine.

The ISSUE is who is doing it, and it CANNOT be NATO. So yeah, Slovakia and the UK. Not NATO.

... the first line in the article.

I personally don't care if NATO announced as long as they are sending the air defense systems.

You might or might not care that NATO announced, but the accuracy of headlines and reports DO matter when one nuclear power, your country, is not supposed to be acting for NATO.

Because words in wartime matter, and even if you don't care how sloppy the reporting is, check out the last sentence that got buried:

The systems have been sourced from NATO partner nations...
A good editor would have put that factual statement in the headline. We could call it the fog of war.

This last part further could be attributed to just trying to make a living in war, too.

system, the S-300 system, if NATO backfills its weapons. Even the tweet thread rejects the claim.

Good lord.

no listening to military intelligence, no conferring with the other NATO countries, no thought of Russia's nuclear arsenal, no thought of provoking Putin into starting World War III, just full tilt cowboy right off the bat?

I'm sincerely grateful we have Joe Biden and our allies thinking every scenario out to the last detail, and if that takes awhile so be it.

I hate seeing the Ukrainian People slaughtered by that beady-eyed psychopath in the Kremlin as much as anyone, but Putin doesn't care if he starts a war with NATO, a nuclear war with the world, or anything else right now. He's not a sane man, and I'm ecstatic we have sane people taking measured steps on our side at the moment.

You're entitled to your opinion, but as for myself, I'm glad you're not in charge.

There was PLENTY that could have been done as soon as we saw Russian divisions move into positions to attack which we knew they were doing back in MARCH of LAST YEAR. And we didn’t need “military intelligence“ to tell us squat - it was on CNN!

By September Russian divisions were on the move. In December there were at least 10 fucking Russian divisions on the border and we knew it!! The US Army doesn’t have 10 damn divisions. You think Vlad moved TEN DIVISIONS for show?? “All the lights were flashing red!” as was once said.

We should have been supplying Ukraine with guns, artillery, antitank weapons, communications, food, medical starting last summer. Plane-load after plane-load like Nixon did for Israel in the 70’s, where a C-5 or 141 was landing in Israel every 90 minutes - and that was during a shooting war with far fewer casualties than Ukraine has right now.

While other nations sent their stingers, the ones from US stockpiles didn’t arrive until - March 8. And now, Forbes is reporting that we can’t make them fast enough. Why wasn’t production ramped up as soon as Vlad started rattling his saber last spring?

Those Russian jets in Poland should have been in Ukraine last fall. Their pilots in training. With plenty of fuel and armaments.

The WSJ:

“While the U.S. has spent billions of dollars helping Ukraine’s forces, the need for some military capabilities WERN’T ADDRESSED until a MASSIVE RUSSIAN MILITARY BUILDUP turned a foreign policy dispute into an increasingly urgent crisis.”

And it’s not just military materiel it’s also financial strikes, the roles of State, Treasury, Commerce, World Bank, IMF, getting allies in line, protecting them, getting Americans out of Russia in advance, warnings not to go there, and on and on.

Zelensky begged the US and NATO to act before Russia attacked. We didn’t.

We have been late to the party. Again.
