After watching the Stacey Abrams interview yesterday and seeing our VP taking her own leadership role alongside President Biden, I am convinced that this is the future. Those two women are exceptional, not because they are exceptions to any rule, but because we, the Democrats, have played the role of empowering, to the extent that we can, their ascendancy. But with their tough minds, willingness to do what it takes, and their brilliance, they will lead the way.
I am gratified at this, at long last! But I don't doubt that it will be tough. Fortunately, women such as these two outstanding leaders, will be tougher.

We need to have her back 1000 percent.

(63,899 posts)HRC had Bill's baggage going against her. Also, being the first woman candidate for President of a major party was a very tough struggle.
If we want to be the Party of the Future, we'd better get this done!

We'll have a crop of newer, young voters, male and female, who will want to see a woman POTUS.
We shall overcome.

(59,500 posts)Obviously, we can EASILY name exceptions. However, for most of them, you can make a case for them being exceptional. It is true, that they also all will have some concentrating on what they call their flaws. At this point, HRC is the only woman who got that far. This would not have happened unless other powerful people, who knew her personally and who could see her as a good president.
You could also have said both Al Gore, an excellent VP, and John Kerry, a war hero who eloquently led efforts to end the Vietnam War were as exceptional.

(47,351 posts)The next presidential candidate will need that as well, especially in the world we are living in. Meanwhile, Biden has only served one year of his first term. It is a bit early to be planning our next nominee. A lot can happen between now and the next Democratic primary. If Joe is still healthy in 2024, I am quite sure he will run again.

(59,500 posts)and his years as VP. Arguably, both had more foreign policy experience and knowledge as Hillary. Not to mention, Biden had something like 30 years on SFRC and 8 years as VP. It is hard to compare with HRC, because her main foreign policy experience was as First Lady and a short time on the armed services committee, but both of these two men were at least comparable.

(47,351 posts)foreign policy credentials from being Secretary of State. There have been very few presidential candidates who had as much relevant foreign policy experience as Joe Biden though. I believe that was one of the main reasons why Obama chose him as his VP. He knew so many foreign leaders by their first name. During the Bush years, they often called Joe before they called GW.
He certainly was the perfect presidential choice for this time in history.

(47,351 posts)I often spend far too much time trying to figure out what a person is trying to say. It may save time in writing (a split second), but the time spent deciphering the many acronyms out there often causes misunderstandings and a lot of frustration.

For some folks a black woman will never be qualified, no matter what.

(34,165 posts)I voted for Stacey once and I will again. I know Stacey will bring it and I've donated to her campaign, but Kemp is not the ignoramus that he appears.
The Kemp is setting things up for the win including tax breaks, $5,000 raises to state workers, installing Sonny Perdue as Chancellor of the University System, Gas-tax break of $30 per gallon, and a surging economy that has overfilled the state coffers.
Accessible election processes have been rolled back enough to interfere with Democratic voting and more may come.
And then there are the red meat, dog-whistle bills with his support.
GUNS IN PUBLIC: House Bill 1358 and Senate Bill 319 would abolish Georgia's requirement for a background check and license to carry a handgun in public. Republicans say it infringes on Second Amendment gun rights for people to have to apply for a permit and pay a fee, usually about $75.
CRITICAL RACE THEORY: House Bill 1084 and Senate Bill 377 would ban the teaching of certain racial concepts that Republicans say are divisive. Opponents say the measure would frighten teachers away from an honest classroom discussion of race in history and the present.
TRANSGENDER ATHLETES: Transgender boys and girls would be banned from playing on the school sports teams matching their gender identity under Senate Bill 435.
PARENT BILL OF RIGHTS: House Bill 1178 and Senate Bill 449 put into one law a number of parental rights that already exist including saying parents have the right to review all classroom materials.
SOCIAL MEDIA REGULATION: Senate Bill 393 seeks to prohibit social media platforms from removing or censoring content.
VACCINE MANDATES: Senate Bill 345 would prevent state agencies and local governments from requiring COVID-19 vaccines.
MASKS IN SCHOOLS: Senate Bill 514 would allow parents to exclude their children from mask mandates.
Having said all that -- Go Stacey!

(14,566 posts)Harris has done well, too, but the media has not given her the coverage she right should have based on the important missions she's taken on. I guess we can call that what it is - institutional misogyny and racism.
As to Abrams, she has done so much for voting rights it isn't even funny. A great American and genuine hero.

(14,566 posts)Just like with Obama and Harris, and Jackson now, too. The racists just swarm out from under their slimy rocks.
I know I'm preaching to the choir here, but I consider her an absolutely outstanding American - representative of everything we OUGHT to be but aren't.
An amusing aside - I have a dear friend who says, everytime Abrams comes up in discussion, that she is a 'messiah.'
Sometimes I absolutely feel bitter rage against this capitalist, corrupt system, but then I look at people who have really made a difference - MLK and the rest of the Civil Rights leaders, including John Lewis (rest in peace!). But there are more. And Stacey Abrams will go down as an individual who genuinely made us better as a nation.

(9,822 posts)Abrams, perhaps my favorite politician of all, has the brains AND the heart we need at the highest level. Unfortunately she doesnt have the svelte media-friendly look of Harris, who I sense has more political savvy than human understanding: not the ideal makeup.

(63,899 posts)In fact, Joe might have had exactly that in mind when he asked her to join him on the team. I trust his judgement on this.
But Abrams strikes me as so abundantly talented I would be eager to see her our President.
