except south of the Equator, where it's the beginning of Autumn.
Equinox time, even in Minnesota, where it will hit about 60 degrees F. today sometime. I'm no fool, though. There's still one snowstorm yet to come, no doubt, here.
It's Nature's way of saying, to Minnesotans, "Not so fast, guys."
A couple of years ago, my wife and I flew to California on what would be our last visit with my parents, who both died on January 6, 2021. We didn't know that, then, though. So, we left here on a 60-degree day, forgoing our usual winter travel gear.
We came back to Minnesota a week later, on April 17th. We saw on the news that a blizzard was coming, and there we were in California with no winter clothes or shoes. So, we went to a K-mart and bought some boots for each of us.
We got home to 16" of snow in the driveway. The roads had been plowed, but there it was, blocking our path to the house. I slogged through it and broke a path from the street to the house. The next morning I fired up the snowblower and cleared the driveway and sidewalks.
In Minnesota, Spring starts sometime, but rarely on the Spring Equinox. We'll see what happens.

(146,288 posts)the old -50 degree parka is still out and hanging on the hall tree by the front door. I'm still wearing boots, too. Once the last snowstorm happens, I'll wash the big parka and put it away, along with my boots, but that will be later, I'm afraid

(86,577 posts)Yesterday was a windy +58F, sunny, nice. This morning I awoke to the sound of sand-like substance slamming against the western wall of my place. Looking outside I noticed that there was a full on snowstorm going on, still going on 6 soggy inches and several hours later.
But it started before the change so I expect winter to go away pretty soon. They say it will be in the +60s in a couple days. I do hope that it's really dumping up in the high country, we never really had much snow up there this winter, anything added now is helpful. We'll need a rainy spring and summer to make up for the lack of snow.

(86,577 posts)Up here in this neck o' the woods we just shrug and mumble something about springtime in the Rockies and carry on. It'll warm up eventually.

(86,577 posts)I lived around the lakes a long time ago, the winters are similar, it's the terrain and elevation that are different.
Hope spring brings good things!

So that's the surprising answer to an unlikely trivia question about the location of paved bike trails in this country.
