to protect and do the bidding of big money and corporations in opposition to those who would rather serve to do the bidding of and for the good of the people as a whole.

I know many here see populism as a negative force, but without a populist effort, I doubt that democracy can defeat today's right-wing autocratic push. For 50 years now, it has been one step forward, two steps back. The forward steps have largely been on the social issues side, whereas the steps back have been in the economic arena. Keep in mind that the GQP has and is using as an effective tool themselves ... the Tea Party and now trumpism.
