(130,865 posts)Though each state has its own laws and terminology, all states, and the federal government, criminalize the receipt of stolen property.

(2,120 posts)as there is that whole "knowingly" or "should have known" part that prosecutors have to prove, as your link clearly explains.
You can make a case that anyone reading someone else's diary "should have known" it was stolen, but it has to be proven and up to a jury. One could claim that many diaries have been donated to various organizations. It's not a done deal.

(12,436 posts)Ms. Biden had in fact kept a diary the previous year as she recovered from addiction and had stored it and some other belongings at a friends home in Florida where she had been living until a few months earlier. The diarys highly personal contents, if publicly disclosed, could prove an embarrassment or a distraction to her father at a critical moment in the campaign.

Let's just allow the DoJ to figure this out.

(1,972 posts)...in my wife's culture beef obtained thru cattle rustling was considered as a gift from the devil.
Cattle rustlers were considered as cultural heroes, and their beef sold at higher prices at local markets when its origin was advertised.
Every family grouping was allotted one cow a week.
It was just a part of their religion (Roman Catholic), that's all.
While blessed by their Religion, cattle rustling was considered a crime by the State.
In the Land of Magical Realism, Cattle Rustling was part of the War between Church and State.
