Tantalizing teaser from Cheney on 1/6 Committee recommendations

U.S. Capitol riot probe to reveal new details on attack, Cheney says

…"There will be legislative recommendations and there certainly will be information" on the attack the public has not yet heard, Cheney told NBC-TV's "Meet the Press."

The committee is expected to hold public hearings later this spring. Cheney said a top priority will be making recommendations, including possible "additional enhanced criminal penalties."

Such penalties, Cheney added, would be aimed at "the kind of supreme dereliction of duty that you saw with former President Trump when he refused to tell the mob to go home after he provoked that attack on the Capitol."

Cheney told NBC that her work on the committee has only raised her distress about what unfolded that day. "I have not learned a single thing since I have been on this committee that has made me less concerned or less worried about the gravity of the situation and the actions that President Trump took and also refused to take while the attack was underway," she said.

That would explain their feet dragging exercise. Why else would every testimony require 10 substantiating testimonies before it's considered admissible and yet, still delay the proceedings.

That's it, you know; the rule of law is inapplicable when it's the lawmakers themselves who commit the felony.

If the Republicans take the house and/or senate this fall, all the evidence the DOJ has painstakingly built a case from will be thrown out, considered irrelevant and prejudicial. It could get even worse. I'm not even sure Biden wouldn't be removed through some kangaroo impeachment "shenanigans" and whoever ultimately replaces him will pardon everybody and start imprisoning Democrats en masse. What would stop them? The national guard? The capitol police?

This is a clash between law and politics which has introduced a state of suspended animation to the government and thus, the nation. We're beyond the pale now. It's unknown territory. People who know how things are supposed to work are winging it daily, supporting the pretense that so long as they play within established parameters, the system will work.

Meadows is one of the central co-conspirators. If they indict him, they have to reveal all the evidence they have on him. They are waiting for very good reasons. And it's tiresome explaining this ad nauseum.

Adam Schiff has stated this over and over in numerous interviews. They have Trump ON TAPE threatening the Georgia SOS to “find” him the 11,000+ votes he needs. What more do they need? According to Schiff, the DOJ should also be doing their own Jan. 6 investigations, but separately there is nothing stopping them from proceeding full steam ahead immediately on the matter of those 11,000 votes, if nothing else to prevent him from ever running for office again.

You, just like everyone else here, doesn't know, and there's a reason for that, you never want to reveal to the defense what your evidence is until it's time to indict.

I trust AG Garland and the DoJ are already investigation.

Cheney says that a top priority could include "additional enhanced criminal penalties."

If I'm not mistaken, the insurrectionists-- including Trump-- can only be charged with crimes that may have been committed on or before January 6, 2021. In other words, Congress cannot pass new laws and charge defendants with violations of those laws for past acts. Isn't that the principle behind the Constitutional prohibition against ex-post-facto laws?

If someone can clarify this, I'd appreciate it!

I learned in my limited traffic court experience, more charges can be added after the original "ticket" is written. Luckily, in my personal experience, the new charges were as false as the original ones and I got it all dismissed. But these people really did the bad shit. We have it all on tape from multiple camera angles. Nail their asses to the wall.

I just saw the actual video of that part of the interview and it seems that by enhancement she means recommending new legislation to address this situation, rather than “enhanced penalties” which is a term under the existing federal sentencing guidelines.
