I'm slowly weaning myself off of cable/satellite TV and am watching more streaming content. I've downgraded my Dish Network plan and have subscribed to Peacock.
I'm more or less hooked on the 24-hour news cycle and enjoy CNN (and to a lesser degree MSNBC). Now, I flip on CNN and watch it until I am presented with one of the following:
1) A prescription drug commercial
2) A commercial for that goddamn mesothelioma book
Then I watch something else, or just flip off the TV entirely. I must say, I'm watching far less news these days. Some days I flip the TV on right into #1 or #2 and don't watch any. As a bonus, I don't have to listen to those shitty repetitive drug commercial jingles.

(23,238 posts)In fact, I don't think I've watched an evening "news" show for months. I stay caught up online...here on DU and listening to NPR in my car. I feel lots less anxious.

(25,746 posts)Too many people spend their entire day watching some cable news. It totally destroys any kind of perspective. Never forget that there is an "off" switch or button.
There is a lot more to life than cable news. Read a book. Watch a rom-com. Go for a walk. Play a game of scrabble. Telephone an old friend.

(7,566 posts)Watch very litte cable news these days...maybe some Nicole.....evenings on MSNBC a disaster snce Rachel and Brian gone. Prefer reading now or watching movies, especially mysteries. If I want to catch up on the news, I come to DU.

(4,358 posts)With ad blockers on my browser I get my 15-20 minutes of actual news a day with no ads.
But to be honest, I'd get everything I need to know just from watching Colbert.

(2,235 posts)and watch any relevant video embedded in it if it seems essential (like journalists on the ground in Ukraine, for example).
Maybe it's just me but I'm beyond tired of talking heads, even of people I like. Talk, talk, talk.
If I want expert commentary, I'll read it.
