Man accused of stealing $1,400 worth of liquor from store
EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (AP) - An Eau Claire man has been charged with stealing $1,400 worth of liquor from a grocery store over three days.
The Leader-Telegram reports 50-year-old Michael White was charged Friday with two counts of retail theft.
According to the criminal complaint, White walked out of Festival Foods on Feb. 18 with 10 bottles of cognac and four bottles of vodka in his cart without paying for them.
The complaint says he returned to the store on Feb. 21 and walked out with seven bottles of cognac and five bottles of tequila in his cart, again without paying.

(65,010 posts)....Glenmorangie.
I've had it for at least 10 years (it's still half full).
I paid around $225.
$1,400 for scotch seems like an awfully high number.
There's a major chain in the Chicago market called Binny's. I did see a $1,200 bottle of cognac there. Of course, that stuff is locked in a glass case and an employee has to get it for you.
I forget where I bought the Glenmorangie, but I do recall it was behind the counter, not on the regular shelves.
Given this story, this guy wasn't stealing junk. 26 bottles of booze, $1,400. Dude was stealing $50+ bottles of hooch!

The older man says "yes it is, but not a whiskey as wobbing a bank"

(32,634 posts)I have *never* bought any liquor for an average of $100/bottle.
That's "I want to sell and make money." Maybe he's an alcoholic and can leverage the street-sale of that $1400 in liquor (assuming $900 on the street) for 70 bottles of hootch.
*That* would say "alcoholic."
