(43,049 posts)early in a campaign can be massive. Breakdowns, mistakes thefts... enemy fire is often the the least of your problems.
I have heard that 50% of your initial battle strength disappearing is to be expected, and my experience of being "combat ready" with almost none of my unit being ready kind of makes the point.

(10,036 posts)But some could be expected to return to service. Unless of course some farmer hook up his tractor to your tank after you left. At this point info is somewhat sketchy but Id believe the Ukrainian news over the Russian news.
Some of those numbers are surprisingly high, especially aircraft. I could see them bring down a lot of helicopters.

It does not include those captured, last listed (to my knowledge) at about 1000, but that was 2-3 days ago.
