(3,158 posts)He spent a week in the hospital, got a serious case of cdiff, and ended up on 5 different antibiotics over a year and a half. He was always super strong and healthy, even played on a traveling seniors tennis team. Now he's frail Doctors today seem to throw antibiotics at everything. Its their go to. TRAVESTY imo borderline malpractice

(8,387 posts)Obviously, I was not addressing his doctors.
If he has something in common with Herman Cain, as suggested by several replies, it must not be COVID.
So, what do you suppose it might be that would remind people of Herman Cain?
madeup64
(257 posts)Or Hermain Cain Award. I imagine most see the headline and automatically assume he has Covid and they don't want to say he does.

What in that would make him another Herman Cain?

(9,067 posts)This just seems odd. He was admitted Friday, but were not hearing about it until Sunday evening. He is experiencing flu-like symptoms, but was given IV antibiotics for an infection (presumably bacterial, but not specified). Do bacterial infections provoke viral flu-like symptoms? And hes at Sibley, not Walter Reed. He expects to be released in a day or two, despite his age, infection, and flu like symptoms. Something just feels off.

(4,897 posts)Whatever happens to Justice Silver, if he passes, steps down, is abducted by aliens, or just simply gets sucked into an alternate realm abyss like the home in Poltergeist, I want President Biden to nominate the most die hard liberal justice he can find. I'm talking hard core pro choice, pro gun control, pro police reform, pro voting rights. Simply put, an associate Justice with liberal credentials that could easily stand alongside those of Ruth Bader Ginsburg or Thurgood Marshall.
I'm not asking for much, I don't think.

I'm not sure what your point is about Anita Hill is but victim shaming is gross.
Thomas has been on the court for 30 years. Hell, if Bork would have made it President Obama could've filled that seat at the beginning of his second term.
Hekate
(90,616 posts)It was, I have always thought, a deliberate GOP insult to the legacy of Associate Justice Marshall. Clarence, aka Long Dong Silver.
When RBG died after a lifetime of service to actual justice, another GOP president appointed Amy Coney Barrett aka The Handmaid to fill her seat. Again, another contemptuous slap in the face to an honorable legacy.
Lets keep it straight. Both-siderism really doesnt work in these circumstances.

(22,628 posts)Influenza (flu) can cause mild to severe illness, and at times can lead to death. Flu is different from a cold. Flu usually comes on suddenly. People who have flu often feel some or all of these symptoms:
fever* or feeling feverish/chills
cough
sore throat
runny or stuffy nose
muscle or body aches
headaches
fatigue (tiredness)
some people may have vomiting and diarrhea, though this is more common in children than adults.
*Its important to note that not everyone with flu will have a fever.
Complications of Flu
Complications of flu can include bacterial pneumonia, ear infections, sinus infections and worsening of chronic medical conditions, such as congestive heart failure, asthma, or diabetes.
People at High Risk from Flu
Anyone can get flu (even healthy people), and serious problems related to flu can happen at any age, but some people are at high risk of developing serious flu-related complications if they get sick. This includes people 65 years and older, people of any age with certain chronic medical conditions (such as asthma, diabetes, or heart disease), pregnant women, and children younger than 5 years.

IV antibiotics is "nothing to sneeze at" as the saying goes.
