She is being released. The judge gave her 4 years and since she completed bible study classes, she's out after 2 years. Smh.
May those precious kids rest in paradise. Such a horror for the family.

(102,194 posts)horror she condemned the family and community to bear. Like digging graves for children who've died. Or emptying the bedpans and cleaning the rooms of hospitalized children with cancer. Or maintaining the highway memorials placed by families of children killed in motor vehicle crashes. The full four years of that sentence. And maybe then she can appear at assemblies in high schools to tell the students what SHE has learned from her grotesque negligence and arrogant mistakes.

(3,332 posts)And if she studied secular books about ethics and empathy, she wouldn't have had a single fucking day shaved off. FUUUUUUUUCK!!!

(53,986 posts)Apparently the 4 years for triple negligent manslaughter wasn't insult enough.

(70,182 posts)I hope this family DOES advocate for legislation.--it will probably be the only silver lining of his whole horrible incident.
................Shepherd still has three years of community corrections and three years of probation. She also has electronic monitoring and her license suspended for 10 years, WSBT reported.
The children's grandpa, Michael Schwab, said they were preparing for this moment. Now, they just want to do something meaningful for the kids and community.
"She still has to deal with her house arrest and probation, and we don't want that to stand in the way and become a roadblock to achieve the things we want to achieve in life," Schwab said.
Ingle said this is a larger issue than just Shepherd.
More children have been hit at bus stops and they need to advocate for their safety through legislation.

(31,964 posts)There is already legislation. You have to stop when a school bus has the stop sign out. She ignored the "legislation". How is anything else going to make anyone safer?

(26,064 posts)It took six months off her PRISON stay -- her original release was September. She has total home detention with GPS for three years, then three years of strict probation. No license for 10 years. I think the license should be longer.
obamanut2012
(26,064 posts)And, I agree the Bible Study thing is fucked up, but it took six months off, not two years. In addition, she has basically 100% home detention with GPS for THREE years, and after that, three years of strictly monitored probation, and her license is gone for 10 years. I think it should be for life, but the US doesn't like doing that.
Her life is fucked, and what she did is horrible, but the legal system should be about rehab, but even here on DU, folks act like we should throw the whole person away, even when there is a chance to have them make something productive of their life. Alyssa Shepherd is not Ted Bundy.
And, if you read the articles about this, the children's family is not dwelling, at elast publicly, on what Shepherd did to their family, but how they can celebrate their children, and make the world safer.
