Scott Ritter
@RealScottRitter
An unpopular take: when the dust settles, Russia will be found to have conducted a military campaign where assiduous compliance with the law of war was the norm. Ukraine, on the other hand, will be the subject of numerous war crimes investigations.
Scott Ritter was pretty popular among some for a while.

William Scott Ritter Jr. (born July 15, 1961) is a former Marine Corps intelligence officer who served with the United Nations implementing arms control treaties, with General Norman Schwarzkopf in the Persian Gulf during Operation Desert Storm, and in Iraq, overseeing the disarmament of weapons of mass destruction (WMD), as a United Nations weapons inspector, from 1991 to 1998. He later became a critic of United States foreign policy in the Middle East.

(115,584 posts)Now I remember that he was very critical of the Iraq war and also that he'd been busted for soliciting sex from minors, and there was a big to-do about that. He ended up doing time for it. I also discovered that since 2019 he's been writing a weekly column for RT. So...

(7,429 posts)Russia is committing war crimes every hour, and you think that they're above reproach.
You're a knucklehead. You're not insightful. You're not referencing some deep, dark cache of previously unknown data. You're just bullshitting with no points of reference to justify your claim.
Intelligence agents would gladly explain that 90-95% of all intelligence gathered by the appropriate agencies are open sourced. And what's open-sourced, right now, is that Russia invaded an independent country and is bombing it to rubble and mass murdering civilians. We SEE that every day on our news. We SEE the videotape and the live broadcasts. We hear from on-site news reporters.
Ritter's a loser. That's all there is to this.

(2,580 posts)Always suspected he was self-aggrandizing and more than a little bit "nuts".
BUT
He highlights a point that is making me uncomfortable.The meme of the Ukes being valiant white knights who can do no wrong has flaws.This is war, it's always messy and always brings out the worst in some factions of any society. Let's be careful who we put on a pedestal until we know the whole story .

(58,785 posts)and that Russia conducted a "military campaign" with "assiduous compliance with the law of war?
This kind of "concern," from Ritter or anyone else, doesn't make me feel uncomfortable, it makes me wonder if he's doing this willingly or is coerced, or both.
NO to Ritter's deceits and NO to false equalization of Ukraine fighting for its national existence with Russia's murderous invasion.

(9,109 posts)His analysis of the so-called (and non-existent) Iraqi WMD stockpile proved to be right on the money, and a sensible Presidential administration would have left the hot mess alone.
Sad that hes being an apologist for Putin and Co.
