and that there will be Republicans participating in them but I don't know why anybody is thinking or pretending like they are going to say anything constructive or that they are going to vote for KJB in the end.

that they are often just a stage for political posturing aimed at their base. Instead of asking serious questions they bloviate on their favorite talking points or throw out gotcha questions - there's far more heat than light. How about if the hearings were not televised but transcripts were made available right away - that way the proceedings would be public but without the opportunity for pointless grandstanding.

Many of them are thinking less about the job at hand and are performing for the camera. They love being on stage.

This hearing is going really well so far, no one has forgetten the First Amendment, cried, or proclaimed how much they like beer.
