Super PAC signals Pennsylvania primary could get rough

Politico

A super PAC backing Pennsylvania Senate candidate Conor Lamb is warning prospective donors that he is trailing frontrunner John Fetterman by 30 percentage points in the Democratic primary — and that the public’s perception of his opponent’s ideology must change for Lamb to have a shot.

“[P]rimary voters don’t yet see Fetterman as the liberal he is,” reads a memo circulated by the pro-Lamb group Penn Progress, which was obtained by POLITICO. “For Conor Lamb to have a path in the primary, this dynamic needs to change.”

Unlike the bloodbath taking place in Pennsylvania’s Republican primary, the contest on the Democratic side has been a relatively tame affair. Fetterman and Lamb haven’t laid a finger on each other on TV, and no outside Democratic groups have aired attack ads on television either.

The nine-page slide deck disseminated by Penn Progress after a recent fundraising call with donors suggests that could soon change.

Fetterman is known throughout the state, has working class cred. He got that name recognition standing up to the Trumpstapo in Harrisburg, had our backs along with AG Josh Shaprio, also a fighter. We need fighters not milk toast.

Is there a pro-Lamb SuperPac?

Have they developed a campaign strategy for the Primary?

Erik Smith, executive director of Penn Progress, said that “without the ability to review [POLITICO’s] source material, I can’t confirm it is valid and hasn’t been altered.”

Smith questions, because this mistrust is the reputation Politico has earned itself.

They didn’t;t deny that the document existed.

They didn’t deny that they were strategizing for the Primary.

The only folks I;ve run into who claim Politico is distrustful seem to be the folks here.

Even ones that don;’t always agree with my own biases.

FWIW, I’m still not clear what party of the story you think isn’t true; or is it just that they “chose” to “target” Fetterman?

Fetterman ran for reelection for the mayor of Braddock later that year winning the Democatic primary with more than 75% of the vote and then winning the general election with more than 86% of the vote.

He ran again in 2017 winning the Democratic primary with 71% of the vote and then winning the general election with 98% of the vote.

A super PAC supporting a Democratic candidate is attacking another Democratic candidate for being too liberal? This falls into the “WTF?” category.

It appears from here that either man would be a good senator.

and he refused to share any source materials with Penn Progress.

Erik Smith, executive director of Penn Progress, said that “without the ability to review [POLITICO’s] source material, I can’t confirm it is valid and hasn’t been altered.”

He added, “We are proud to support Conor Lamb in this race. All our polling in the primary and general election demonstrates that Conor Lamb is our best shot to win this seat. It shows Lamb has room to grow and he has proven he can win tough elections in a Trump district.”

I wish Politico would do an investigative report on Justice Democrats superpac and its billionaire donor Charles Dunlop.

https://www.opensecrets.org/political-action-committees-pacs/justice-democrats/C00630665/donors/2020

The $35,000 Penn Progress has raised pales by comparison.

It is nice to see that Penn Progress's major donor is the Sheet Metal, Air, Rail & Transportation Union, rather than a billionaire who "dumped $20,000,000 cash on a Malibu cottage".
