Democrats are taking this country in a more diverse and inclusive direction.
This fear has caused them to feel that a democracy will level the playing field for women and minorities, and they are frightened that white men will lose something if minorities and women enjoy the same rights and privileges they do. So, they gerrymander and suppress the vote.
They are scared that the schools will produce graduates who won't be obedient and docile, so they want to take our tax dollars and subsidize tuition at private Christian schools. This is why they promote vouchers.
They are scared that the birth rates of immigrants, racial and ethnic minorities are higher than those of white households, so the US will become a 'minority majority' country, as several states have already become. This is why they are packing the Supreme and Appellate courts with judges specially prepared by the Federalist Society to legislate from the bench. They want to make abortion, and even birth control illegal so that white women will become pregnant at a higher rate and be forced to give birth to white children.
They are frightened of other religions besides Evangelical Christianity, and so are anti-Muslim, anti-Semitic, and generally white supremacist. This is why they are doing everything they can to impose a theocratic government on us.
You know what the REAL problem is, though? The old white guys have been manipulated and propagandized since the days of Reagan to hate, dehumanize and demonize Democrats, immigrants, minorities and members of other religions because this is profitable for oligarchs.
You see, if our government were actually made up of a Congress that cared about upholding the best interests of the people, it would be bad for profits, and the oligarchs would not have what they do now, which is the systematic routing of public monies into the pockets of corporations and billionaires. This is why we can 'afford' $4 trillion on forever wars and $770 billion in 'defense' monies this year, but cannot afford to expand Medicare, or Social Security.
Just a couple quick facts: I don't think you are nearly as old as me, but did you know that in 1984, Republicans ensured that Social Security recipients had to pay taxes on their meager checks, and you actually have to get a book to even understand Medicare, because they have purposely made it so hard. Why? Because Wall Street has coveted those trust funds for decades. Remember in '04 when Bush tried to privatize Social Security. Thank God that failed or our elderly would be utterly impoverished.
And drugs people need? For those who have HIV, there is a wonderful drug called Biktarvy. I know cause I watch 'old people's TV' and there is a Biktarvy commercial on numerous times a day. I wondered how much Biktarvy actually is, and they gouge patients for............................wait for it........................................$3,214.05 for a 30 day supply. Imagine that.
How about insulin? In 2009, the list price for a 10-milliliter vial insulin was about $93. Today it costs about $290. WHY? And why is it the Republicans primarily who refuse to allow the government to negotiate the cost of prescriptions? Millions of Americans with Type 1 diabetes are forced to RATION their insulin because big pharma cares more about shareholder profits than it ever did about patients. Same with health insurance, and for-profit hospital systems. Just imagine what it would be like if nurses and doctors actually were able to prioritize what the patient ACTUALLY NEEDS instead of worrying about counting money.
Remember Yoshida Yui, that when you lift the slimy rock of capitalism and look underneath it will always be a wrinkled, liver-spotted, white male hand grasping for MORE PROFITS. That is why we aren't a first world country anymore. In the words of a movie character, "This shit's getting out of hand."
