This is the only website I post on. I use the internet to educate myself, period. DU has supported me, wished me luck as I have been dealing with a flawed healthcare system. You can't put a price on that.
DU educates me, people post great information from around America and the world. DU is a place for the sane, in an insane world.
Keep up the good work. Remember, Fight for freedom.

(149,297 posts)And I heartily agree with your thoughts on DU itself. I've learned a lot from being here, and I'm a lot more aware of local to world events. It has been a godsend for my education, which continues!
DU is home, my electronic home.

(24,587 posts)It's weird. I've been thinking a lot lately about the hole DU fills for me.
I have friends who support our family in our struggles.
I have friends who share my politics.
I have friends I like to play with, with whom I have nothing politically in common.
I have family who fit all of the above.
But here at DU... I know I'm not "interrupting" someone (because you can simply easily ignore me!) with my travails. And I can usually find someone with the information or input I am seeking!
I know that, although we have a range of takes on a range of issues - politically, philosophically, religiously, and otherwise, in general, we are here in the same book, if not the same page! And are tolerant and curious - want to learn about others' positions. It's a generally free and open discussion. I never know what wisdom I'll find. Like a cross between hive mind, a college dorm, and my Unitarian fellowship, and where someone is usually up to talk and share their wisdom and their perspective!
Have I felt hurt or offended here through the years? Sure. Sometimes due to my own miscue, or lack of consideration or sensitivity. But, more often, I have found support, comfort, and valuable info. By far.
Thanks, DU. I've been here since 2004 (seriously???). You are definitely my tribe!
It feels kinda weird, but true. It would be so cool to meet in person for one big blowout bbq some day, wouldn't it?

(7,802 posts)Internet friends helped me through the worst times in my life and this is my way to pass the camaraderie along. Although we can't be there to hold your hand or put a comforting arm around your shoulder, we are with you in spirit - 24 hours a day.
Sending you my best healing vibes.
