PoliticoFor months, political operatives in Missouri and Washington, D.C., warned that there would likely be more damning accusations to come out against Greitens. The other shoe dropped Monday, after the disgraced former Missouri governors ex-wife alleged in court documents that he abused her and their children.
Its a development that could shake up the crowded GOP Senate primary, where Greitens has remained in the lead despite top establishment Republicans working against him and where former President Donald Trump has so far refrained from endorsing. The allegations that Greitens abused his family, which he denies, also draw similarities to Sean Parnell, the Trump-endorsed Senate candidate who dropped out of the Pennsylvania GOP primary after losing custody of his children this fall.
Alarm in Washington is palpable as Republicans fret Greitens will blow the race to succeed retiring Sen. Roy Blunt (R-Mo.). Several Republican senators said on Monday that Greitens should exit the race, and Sen. Rick Scott (R-Fla.), chair of the National Republican Senatorial Committee, said the new accusations are pretty disturbing, calling on Trump to take a big pause before endorsing in the race an eyebrow raising departure from Scotts normal neutrality.
Republicans in Disarray!
Why does Politico insist on running these biased, divisive stories?

(1,654 posts)His ex-wife is an impressive person. Undergrad work at Stanford, followed by a masters at Oxford (where she was a Marshall Scholar) and a Ph.D. at Stanford. She was a prof back at the University of Missouri when her then-husband was governor, and now is a prof at UT Austin. It will be hard to discredit her.
I also remember then-Missouri Attorney General Josh Hawley pushing to get rid of Greitens at the time. I always thought that was a cynical ploy to get rid of a political rival.

(29,674 posts)Hawley distancing himself from Greitens had nothing to do with any of the allegations of blackmail, abuse or assault. Supposedly it's all about money-dark money, to be exact. They both campaigned together in 2016 and received lots of dark money.

(31,516 posts)Those are among the scandalous allegations against Gov. Eric Greitens of Missouri that were released in a legislative report on Wednesday that has put the first-term Republican governors political future in deep trouble.

The woman went to his house in March 2015 at his request, the report said. He bound her to exercise equipment with tape and began kissing her around her stomach, the woman testified, according to the 24-page report. After she began crying and told him to stop, Mr. Greitens helped her undo the tape, and then hugged her and tried to console her.
But then he took out his penis, the report said, and the woman told the investigative committee that although she was not scared, she felt that the only way she could leave his home was if she performed oral sex.
