They wouldn't want to get so anti-Black that he would be forced to defend her. Best he is absent.

but by his position in his family. An only child. No cousins, if I recall. Just parents, aunts, uncles all of them with all their expectations focused on this one boy. He knew he was special.
He did not disappoint, either. He achieved.
But the person who wrote the bio made this point: in his mind he knew his specialness and seemed to believe he had gotten where he was on his own. In fact, he had an entire extended family focused on his opportunities for achievement and lifting him up.
Did he ever reach down his hand and pull someone else up? Well, he has his Court clerks, so who actually knows.
Its funny how some things stick in the mind.

But hes entitled to the same privacy as anyone else in the meantime.
Nobody is going to be relaying minute-by-minute accounts for the morbid curiosity of people who want him dead.

(7,700 posts)...for providing a reminder of our law:
The Privacy Rule standards address the use and disclosure of individuals health information (known as protected health information) by entities subject to the Privacy Rule. These individuals and organizations are called covered entities. The Privacy Rule also contains standards for individuals rights to understand and control how their health information is used. A major goal of the Privacy Rule is to ensure that individuals health information is properly protected while allowing the flow of health information needed to provide and promote high quality health care and to protect the publics health and well-being. The Privacy Rule strikes a balance that permits important uses of information while protecting the privacy of people who seek care and healing.

(2,831 posts)He's a public figure, the health of whom has major ramifications for the country.
Nobody's saying, "Why won't his doctors tell us everything!"
But the Court might be more forthcoming about his condition.
I mean, seriously: When Trump was in the hospital with the Covid, there were updates (true or false) on his condition.
And nobody said, "BUT THE HIPAAAAAAAAA!"
Because all it does is say that doctors can't talk out of school.
Not that nobody has an obligation to disclose vital information.

(4,448 posts)It's not a restriction on the patient.
If the patient wants to discuss his or her medical condition, it's not illegal.

(8,387 posts)We got updates about, e.g. Trump (and false ones btw) because he authorized them.
I sincerely doubt that either Thomas or his family are interested in making public pronouncements on his minute-by-minute status for the satisfaction of people who want to see him dead.
It's pretty obvious the patient doesn't want his condition disclosed beyond what he has authorized.

(42,694 posts)The CDC recommends, as one possible course of treatment, IV treatment for at-risk (including older) patients with flu-symptoms.
Just a couple of weeks ago, the father of a friend was admitted to the hospital with flu-like symptoms and administered IV antibiotics.
