(6,804 posts)Intelligent in so many aspects that there is little apparent reason to suspect an underlying psychosis. But lurking within, she has an area of her mind which she cannot have conscious contact with. The neurotransmitters don't cross the synapse gap, failing to provide a conscious level of self-awareness. She's totally unable to see the depths of her hypocrisy or the depravity it engenders.

(10,749 posts)Maybe she's really not.
That said, she doesn't care because regardless of her responsibilities as a supreme court justice, she believes she is right. She is right to believe as she does. So in her view she is standing up for what is right - in her core - and so in her view it was a non-issue. And she may vote her Christian conscience on any abortion rights issues, and she will not see that as a contradiction to her supposed impartiality because - see above - she believes she is right. The rest of us are not right, and we are damned to hell. Plus, her rightness is consistent with what is almost certainly her Christian dominionism philosophy.
This is all of a piece of the extremist right wing. The truckers in MD and DC are getting Covid. Some may die. But that's okay. Because what they believe - regardless of reality - is more important than getting sick and dying. Maybe they'll have a deathbed conversion that prompts them to tell others to get vaccinated. I'll bet they don't - because doing so conflicts with their world view - or, more accurately, what they have been told is their world view.

(8,792 posts)But many of the women in the Republican Party, particularly two women, deserve the word........
Every time either of them make a statement, I think of Dan Akroyd in saturday night live when he would say:
JANE, you ignorant slut........if each atom of your brain was a ton of TNT, you wouldn't have enough to blow your nose.....
Republican women are all stepford/handmaiden wives in my opinion. Totally brainwashed, trained to be subservient and submissive.........And do whatever the Republican men tell them to do, or how to act.....
Barrett is no different.....AND THAT IS EXACTLY WHY THE REPUBLICAN MEN LIKE THOSE KINDS OF WOMEN.
Hell look at all the tramp/ignorant sluts that Trump surrounded himself with in his entire administration !!!!!!!!!!!!

(28,443 posts)Is there a precedent or procedure for forcing SCOTUS recusals, or for suing the Court if such a clear conflict of interest exists?
Every Justice on the Supreme Court is a law unto themselves. This is a point that's crying out for reform. When the business of Ginni Thomas comes before her husband and the Supreme Court, it's enough for Justice Thomas to say that he won't be biased or influenced when he rules in favor of his wife's position. The same goes for Justice Barrett or any other member of the Court.

(49,952 posts)WASHINGTON
Justice Clarence Thomas remains hospitalized in Washington after being found to have an infection, but he does not have COVID-19, the Supreme Court said Monday.
The high court announced Sunday evening that the 73-year-old justice had entered the hospital Friday after experiencing flu-like symptoms and underwent tests. The court said Thomas was found to have an infection and was being treated with intravenous antibiotics. The court said at the time that his symptoms are abating, but it did not say that Thomas had tested negative for the coronavirus.
During arguments at the court Monday, Thomas chair, to the right of Chief Justice John G. Roberts Jr., was empty, and Roberts took note of Thomas absence without explaining the reason for it. He said Thomas would take part in the cases based on written briefs and recordings of the in-court arguments. Thomas has been on the court since 1991 and is currently its longest-serving justice.
...
News of Thomas hospitalization came just before the Senate Judiciary Committee opened hearings Monday on the nomination to the court of Ketanji Brown Jackson, whom President Biden has named to replace retiring Justice Stephen G. Breyer. If confirmed, she would be the first Black woman on the court, but her confirmation would not change the ideological balance on the court. Thomas is the courts second Black justice ever and one of six conservatives now on the court.
Several lawmakers and the White House wished Thomas a speedy recovery. Some questions and answers about Thomas hospitalization:
If its not COVID-19, whats wrong?
The court provided no additional information about the infection that put Thomas in the hospital other than to say he was responding to intravenous antibiotics. There was no indication as to the seriousness of the infection or what caused it, but the court said Sunday evening that he was expected to be out of the hospital in a day or two.

(10,140 posts)Anti-vaxxers like to pretend the secondary infections from Covid aren't really about Covid....
"Secondary infection was associated with a higher risk of death in both patient groups 2.7-fold (1.225.83) for COVID-19, and 3.09-fold (1.117.38) for Influenza). The association with death remained significant upon adjustment to age and clinical parameters in COVID-19 but not in influenza infection. Secondary bacterial infection is a notable complication associated with worse outcomes in COVID-19 than influenza patients. Careful surveillance and prompt antibiotic treatment may benefit selected patients."

(81,139 posts)She looks like she's been programmed.
And I still wonder about those five kids she had, and how they were raised, and by whom? WAS she home with all five of them as they were growing, to love and guide and feed and teach and supervise and do carpool for? Or was she out chasing as big a judicial career as she could possibly manage? Did her kids get short shrift because Mommy ws in law school or in presiding in a lower court? Did she have nannies do her job for her? How did she get where she is so that she was considered (at least by some) as Supreme Court material, and how much time did she invest in that - and how much did those FIVE KIDS go begging because Mommy was busy building her law/judicial career?
Inquiring minds (like mine) want to know!
