General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsI figured I would share with you a few of my personal photos from my visit to Ukraine in 2019.
Note: I'm a notoriously bad picture taker in general; I took these using an unremarkable Iphone 6, with no edits or touch ups. So needless to say, I'm shocked how picture perfect these came out.
The beauty in these photos is all Ukraine. It is a stunningly beautiful country.
There are more photos I can share as well.
If anyone has any questions about any one picture or place in particular, please feel free to comment and I will be happy to fill you in.

(22,697 posts)My wife just dragged out our photo album of pix from or trip there We were there about 8 or 10 years ago. Beautiful country and people. It's kind of funny. When we were there our friends warned me not to take photos of the people because they were a bit suspicious. So we entered a farmers market in Kiev, and there was this cute father and daughter behind one of the stands. I pointed at my camera and gestured if it was okay to photograph them. They smiled and posed for me. From then on, I did that throughout our stay and ended up with a ton of photos of the people. I must say, Ukrainian women are some of the most beautiful women I've ever seen And do they ever dress up!

(10,425 posts)My Russian professor was a Ukrainian emigre. I have always wanted to visit Ukraine, ever since college. Especially since the USSR broke up. I was hoping to go now that I was out of the government.
Once the war is over, I'm hoping that they rebuild.

(32,634 posts)And thanks for sharing them. The scenery and the architecture remind me somewhat of southern Germany. I've never been to Ukraine but now in these photos I can see why so many people love it.
It's sad that Putin feels like he has to destroy it, because he can't own it himself.

(36,041 posts)Maybe St. Sophia's and the Carpathian area are World Heritage Site, but the other cathedrals you show look like they deserve the same designation.
Here's the World Heritage list for Ukraine:
Kyiv: Saint-Sophia Cathedral and Related Monastic Buildings, Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra
L'viv the Ensemble of the Historic Centre
Struve Geodetic Arc *
Ancient and Primeval Beech Forests of the Carpathians and Other Regions of Europe *
Residence of Bukovinian and Dalmatian Metropolitans
Ancient City of Tauric Chersonese and its Chora
Wooden Tserkvas of the Carpathian Region in Poland and Ukraine *
Wow, what a beautiful place. Thank you for sharing.

(22,634 posts)and the people only makes by heart break deeper. Thinking about the loss of life, the destruction of their amazing culture, the
obliteration of their homes and the complete disruption of any sense of personal security they are experiencing makes me sad beyond words.
I can't begin to imagine everything that they must be feeling. They are incredibly strong and brave. The prospect that this generational trauma might never heal, is deeply disturbing.
It's very clear that we're witnessing genocide by whatever definition we use. Putin must be held personally responsible and made to pay for this.

that churches are frequently considered to be among the best, most memorable architecture in a region or city.
Such a waste of time and effort.

(81,220 posts)I wonder how many of them will remain like this. I'm sure the Russians won't care. They seem to be hellbent strictly on total destruction.
I still see the work of an angry, jilted, and horridly self-entitled lover. "If I can't have her, NOBODY can."
