Judge tosses D.C.'s antitrust lawsuit against Amazon
An antitrust lawsuit brought against Amazon.com Inc. (Nasdaq: AMZN) by D.C. Attorney General Karl Racine has been thrown out.
On Friday, Judge Hiram Puig-Lugo of the D.C. Superior Court granted Amazons motion to dismiss the case, which alleged the tech giant used anticompetitive practices to dominate the online retail market. Court records did not indicate a reason for the dismissal.
The case was one of the first government-led challenges to the companys business practices. In the suit, Racine claimed the e-commerce giant used a complex scheme of fees and extra charges to both ensure that consumers pay more for goods sold on Amazons marketplace and punish companies looking to sell their wares for lower prices elsewhere.
In its motion to dismiss, Amazon said writing pricing restrictions into contracts with sellers is legal and common in the retail industry.
